Examine the evidence for Christianity and why it is worth considering. Lots of people assume that Christianity is simply a nice story for kids or a niche hobby for weirdos—or worse, unattractively restrictive. In this book, Ben Shaw invites sceptical readers to think again. He outlines seven reasons why Christianity is worth considering—or reconsidering—not least because it offers some thought-provoking and rational answers to our deepest questions. This warm, honest book shows that the Christian message is both more credible and more wonderful than we might have otherwise thought, and calls readers to investigate the person of Jesus for themselves.

Can I Believe written by John G. Stackhouse Jr. and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-21 with Religion categories.

Maybe Christianity is actually true. Maybe it is what believers say it is. But at least two problems make the thoughtful person hesitate. First, there are so many other options. How could one possibly make one's way through them to anything like a rational and confident conclusion? Second, why do so many people choose to be Christian in the face of so many reasons not to be Christian? Yes, many people grow up in Christian homes and in societies, but many more do not. Yet Christianity has become the most popular religion in the world. Why? This book begins by taking on the initial challenge as it outlines a process: how to think about religion in a responsible way, rather than settling for such soft vagaries as "faith" and "feeling". It then clears away a number of misunderstandings from the basic story of the Christian religion, misunderstandings that combine to domesticate this startling narrative and thus to repel reasonable people who might otherwise be intrigued. The second half of the book then looks at Christian commitment positively and negatively. Why do two billion find this religion to be persuasive, thus making it the most popular "explanation of everything" in human history? At the same time, how does Christianity respond to the fact that so many people find it utterly implausible, especially because so many Christians insist that theirs is the only way to God and because of the problem of evil that seems to undercut everything Christianity asserts? Grounded in scholarship but never ponderous, Can I Believe? refuses to dodge the hard questions as it welcomes the intelligent inquirer to give Christianity at least one good look.

What S The Least I Can Believe And Still Be A Christian written by Martin Thielen and has been published by Westminster John Knox Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-01 with Religion categories.

Pastor and author Martin Thielen has compiled a list of ten things people need to believe, and ten things they don't, in order to be a Christian. This lively and engaging book will be a help to seekers as well as a comfort to believers who may find themselves questioning some of the assumptions they grew up with. With an accessible, storytelling style that's grounded in solid biblical scholarship, Thielen shows how Christians don't need to believe that sinners will be "left behind" to burn in hell or that it's heresy to believe in evolution. And while we must always take the Bible seriously, we don't always have to take it literally. At the same time, Christians do need to believe in Jesus--his life, his teachings, his death and resurrection, and his vision for the world. A great benefit of those beliefs is that they provide promising answers to life's most profound questions, including: Where is God? What matters most? What brings fulfillment? What about suffering? Is there hope? Thielen articulates centrist, mainline Christianity in a way that's fresh and easy to understand, and offers authentic Christian insights that speak to our deepest needs. This new edition includes a leader's guide, previously only available online, and a new introduction from the author that reflects on the book's reception. The leader's guide features unique and easily implemented aids for carrying out a seven-week, congregation-wide initiative that will help local churches reach out to their communities. Just Christianity takes the reader on a logical, historical and scientific journey through history showing how God's plan for humanity has been revealed. This book attempts to answer the skeptic's questions and in that sense it is apologetic, however, it also seeks to inspire the reader to take some first steps on a walk of faith. Christians will find it an invaluable tool for personal evangelism and encouragement, and enquirers a challenge to take the story of salvation seriously. Just Christianity was first written in the 1990's as a series of long letters. They were sent discretely to a man who was reluctant to discuss Christianity openly. He was dying of cancer. The letters answered many of his questions and doubts, and challenged him to accept the gospel message. He gave his life to Christ in his eleventh hour, a few days before he went to meet his Lord and Saviour face to face. This book is dedicated to the memory of him and his wife. The ultimate goal of this work is to advance Christian unity. Christians are free to disagree with other believers about certain matters of faith and practice that ought not to break up their unity or fellowship. But they will stand together on certain key doctrines and beliefs that are nonnegotiable. This book highlights those core Christian teachings that demand assent in order for someone to be called a true follower of Christ. A considerable amount of space is also devoted to the aspects of these central tenets that might include some flexibility of understanding without compromising the integrity of scriptural truth and the Christian tradition. 114
