This thesis is an exploration of instrumental tuning trends from Bach to 21st Century, considering different areas of musicological and acoustical studies. While the introduction brings us in a tuning continuum with brief explanations from the origins, the first chapter details the controversial acoustic theories of Hermann Helmholtz and Bernhard Riemann over various tuning temperaments. Considering baroque temperaments having a contoured profile in between all historical tunings, the present work builds the special interest for the most influential schemata, which impacted classic and contemporary tunings. The second chapter makes a case for Werckmeisters well-tempered tunings and the mathematical approaches of historical temperaments during Bachs time. The third chapter details the development of the equal tempered tuning and the evolution from the meantone to classic or equal temperament I plan to have a closer look into geometrical and mechanical approximations that led to equal divisions. The fourth chapter explores the immense spectrum of micro tunings and digital technologies. At this point I want to underline the rapid ascension of digital technologies emphasizing the latest discoveries of sound emulation methods and sample image engendering, drawing the line to inferring from evidence and reasoning how the temperaments of the future might develop.

Genesis Revealed written by Peter Waller and has been published by Wheatmark, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Religion categories.

The lines have been drawn. On one side are young earth creationists, who assert that God created the universe in six days and—based on calculations derived from the Bible—that the earth is six thousand years old. On the other side are secular scientists, who claim the universe has existed for over thirteen billion years, the earth for 4.5 billion. Scientists claim that no miracles were necessary to form the universe, and that everything is explained by natural causes. However, young earth creationists point to verses at the beginning of the Bible and the beginning of the book of John that clearly claim that God created the universe. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Genesis 1:1–2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. John 1:1–3 But what if there is no contradiction between scientific data and the Bible? Arnold Guyot was a nineteenth-century geologist and geographer at Princeton University. In addition to his numerous scientific accomplishments, he developed the day-age interpretation of Genesis 1, in which the "days" of creation represent geologic ages. When we view the Bible through this lens, we find that modern science has not only failed to refute the miracles of Genesis, but has in fact provided abundant evidence for their veracity. Genesis Revealed: A Scientific Examination of the Creation Story takes readers down the twin paths of science and theology to show that they lead us to the same destination. Citing a multitude of discoveries in astronomy and geology, Dr. Peter Waller makes a compelling case for Guyot’s interpretation—and for the miracles described in Genesis 1:1–25.

Seismic Exploration Methods written by Ray L. Sengbush and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.

This book describes the seismic methods used in geophys ical exploration for oil and gas in a comprehensive, non rigorous, mathematical manner. I have used it and its predecessors as a manual for short courses in seismic methods, and it has been extensively revised time and again to include the latest advances in our truly remark able science. I once called it, "Advanced Seismic Inter pretation," but the geophysicists who attended the courses always wondered when I was going to start dis cussing interpretation. They discovered at the end that I never did discuss interpretation as they knew it. No men tion was made of reflection picking, posting times, map ping, contouring, and things they already knew perfectly well. Instead, I discussed Fourier transforms, sampling theory, impulse responses, distortion operators, Wiener filters, noise in f-k space, velocity spectra, wave-equation migration, and direct detection of hydrocarbons as each of these topics appeared on the seismic scene. I wanted the geophysicists to think beyond the routine ofinterpre tation, to develop a better understanding of why seismic sections look as they do, to have a better feel for what digital processing is doing, for good or evil, to the seismic data. I attempted to stretch their minds. Whitehead said it best: "A mind once stretched by a new idea can never shrink to its former dimension. " May this book be a suc cessful mind-stretcher. R. L.
