Worldwide simultaneous effects of technologies, international challenges such as climate change as well as shifting relationships between science and society call for approaches that can address these issues on a global level. This book examines the potential of Technology Assessment (TA), as an until now mainly national and Western concept, to take on this global level and provide answers to these pressing questions. This open access book explores the relevance of the concept of technology assessment (TA) on an international and global level. Technologies play a key role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, population aging, digitization, and health. At the same time, their use increases the need for coordinated action and governance at the global level in the field of science, technology and innovation (STI). Featuring case studies on STI fields such as energy, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and health technology, as well as TA activities at the national and international levels, this book reflects on the challenges and opportunities of global technology governance. It also provides an in-depth discussion of current governmental STI cultures and systems, societal expectations, and the policy priorities needed to achieve coordinated and effective STI intervention in policymaking and public debate at the global level. Lastly, the book promotes the establishment of a forum for a truly global dialogue of TA practitioners, fostering the articulation of their needs, knowledge and perspectives.

This book investigates how ethics generally precedes legal regulation, and looks at how changes in codes of ethics represent an unparalleled window into the research, innovation, and emerging technologies they seek to regulate. It provides case studies from the fields of engineering, science, medicine and social science showing how professional codes of ethics often predate regulation and help shape the ethical use of emerging technologies and professional practice. Changes in professional ethics are the crystallization of ongoing conversation in scientific and professional fields about how justice, privacy, safety and human rights should be realized in practice where the law is currently silent. This book is a significant addition to this area of practical and professional ethics and is of particular interest to practitioners, scholars, and students interested in the areas of practical and applied ethics.

[Migration. Dynamic Processes in Nature and Society] The world around us is full of movement of both material and immaterial objects, from the dissolution of cube sugar in morning coffee to the incorporation of new species into our fauna and flora and the introduction of new words into our language. The consequences of such "migrations" and the phenomena associated with them are particularly lasting when they take place in our society. The January 2019 conference of the Protestant Research Academy was dedicated to the interdisciplinary discourse on the spread and demarcation in nature and technology, economy and society as well as in language under the conditions of advancing globalization. This volume summarizes the contributions of this conference and offers a wealth of information on an omnipresent phenomenon.

"The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic marks the most significant, singular global disruption since World War II, with health, economic, political, and security implications that will ripple for years to come." -Global Trends 2040 (2021) Global Trends 2040-A More Contested World (2021), released by the US National Intelligence Council, is the latest report in its series of reports starting in 1997 about megatrends and the world's future. This report, strongly influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, paints a bleak picture of the future and describes a contested, fragmented and turbulent world. It specifically discusses the four main trends that will shape tomorrow's world: - Demographics-by 2040, 1.4 billion people will be added mostly in Africa and South Asia. - Economics-increased government debt and concentrated economic power will escalate problems for the poor and middleclass. - Climate-a hotter world will increase water, food, and health insecurity. - Technology-the emergence of new technologies could both solve and cause problems for human life. Students of trends, policymakers, entrepreneurs, academics, journalists and anyone eager for a glimpse into the next decades, will find this report, with colored graphs, essential reading.

Global Technology Transfer written by John Chumack and has been published by Nova Biomedical Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Business & Economics categories.

Governments the world over fret continuously about the low level of transfer of technology, especially within their own countries. The general problem is military to industry although the variations are numerous. Problems of presentation, offering and support complicate an already byzantine world. Yet somewhere within this dilemma lie the seeds of tomorrow's economic uptick. Besides the nontrivial problems involved here, the reluctance of the people having the technology to share it with someone who can profit from it, stands out. This book presents the issues and offers a comprehensive bibliography for easy access.
