Turks Jews And Other Germans In Contemporary Art written by Peter Chametzky and has been published by National Geographic Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-14 with Art categories.

The first book to examine multicultural visual art in Germany, discussing more than thirty contemporary artists and arguing for a cosmopolitan Germanness. With Turks, Jews, and Other Germans in Contemporary Art, Peter Chametzky presents a view of visual culture in Germany that leaves behind the usual suspects--those artists who dominate discussions of contemporary German art, including Gerhard Richter, Anselm Kiefer, and Rosemarie Trockel--and instead turns to those artists not as well known outside Germany, including Maziar Moradi, Hito Steyerl, and Tanya Ury. In this first book-length examination of Germany's multicultural art scene, Chametzky explores the work of more than thirty German artists who are (among other ethnicities) Turkish, Jewish, Arab, Asian, Iranian, Sinti and Roma, Balkan, and Afro-German. With a title that echoes Peter Gay's 1978 collection of essays, Freud, Jews and Other Germans, this book, like Gay's, rejects the idea of "us" and "them" in German culture. Discussing artworks in a variety of media that both critique and expand notions of identity and community, Chametzky offers a counternarrative to the fiction of an exclusively white, Christian German culture, arguing for a cosmopolitan Germanness. He considers works that deploy critical, confrontational, and playful uses of language, especially German and Turkish; that assert the presence of "foreign bodies" among the German body politic; that grapple with food as a cultural marker; that engage with mass media; and that depict and inhabit spaces imbued with the element of time. American discussions of German contemporary art have largely ignored the emergence of non-ethnic Germans as some of Germany's most important visual artists. Turks, Jews, and Other Germans in Contemporary Art fills this gap.

"British and German artists, from Gerhard Richter to Damien Hirst, have helped to define the last forty years of art. Starting with Zero and Pop, and ending with Sensation artists and Ultra-modernists, Art Works offers a unique, fully illustrated survey of contemporary art. Drawn from one of the world's largest and most comprehensive collections of works on paper, that of Deutsche Bank, this book contains many pieces by famous artists such as Francis Bacon, Georg Baselitz, Sigmar Polke, Joseph Beuys and R.B. Kitaj, as well as by emerging artists such as Stepanek and Maslin and Susan Derges, most of which have remained unpublished until now." "The 48,000 works on paper now owned by Deutsche Bank have been bought for the staff and not as investments. The experience of working in a building with pieces by major contemporary artists is very different from - perhaps more rewarding than - a brief visit to a museum. The purpose of the collection, as well as offering a history of recent art, is to introduce staff to the work of young artists and to emphasize that art can play an important part in a working environment." "Here, for the first time, the disparate parts of the collection are brought together in a single book. With over 250 colour illustrations, specially commissioned artists' statements and a survey of the collection by art critic and curator Alistair Hicks, Art Works paints a vivid picture of the art of our time."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Future Perfect written by and has been published by Moderne Kunst Verlag Fur this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Art categories.

Future Perfect' collects works by artists concerned with notions of the future and speculations on the course of history, using a grammatical tense which makes it possible to present future events as if they had already occurred. Politics and the world of finance are particularly fond of predicting the future in the form of “this-is-how-it-will-have-been” in order to convey a society or to investors a sense of security. However, when the future is already perceived as something in the past, something that has been and hone, how is it possible for us to have visions, to speculate and to get away from the conventional thought patterns? This is the starting point for this exhibition and publication project, the point where it asks: is it at all possible for us to communicate using the conjecture and suppositions of a future perfect? Can artistic practices reference this area of future notions and activities? 0Exhibition: Frankfurter Kunstverein, Germany (23.08.–13.10.2013).

Degenerate Art written by Olaf Peters and has been published by Prestel Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Art, Modern categories.

This book accompanies the first major museum exhibition devoted to a reconstruction of the infamous Nazi display of modern art since the presentation originated by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1991. The book contains reflections on the genesis and evolution of the term "degenerate art" and details of the National Socialist policy on art. Art works from the exhibition Degenerate Art are compared to works of art from The Great German Art Exhibition, which was held at the same time and displayed the works of officially approved artists. The book also presents the after-effects of the attack on modernism that are felt even today.
