This value pack contains Contemporary Security Studies and Strategy in the Contemporary World. The third edition of Contemporary Security Studies provides a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the rapidly developing field of security studies. Bringing together leading scholars in the field, it covers a broad range of approaches and issues, from terrorism and inter-state armed conflict to security issues centring on the environment, health, and transnational crime. The new edition includes a new chapter on cyber-security, as well as introducing more material on international organizations and institutions, private military companies, and nuclear proliferation and deterrence. It is supported by an Online Resource Centre, provided additional contents for lecturers and students. Strategy in the Contemporary World looks at the development of strategy, considering the role of military power in the contemporary world, and assessing the future of strategy in light of fast-paced technological change. The fourth edition explores issues from both times of war and of peace, analysing both conflicts themselves, and the on-going debates about what can be learned from them. A new chapter on cyberpower reflects growing debates about whether there has been a revolution in military affairs and the future of warfare given the phenomenal pace of innovation in electronics and computer systems, while there is also a new focus on the strategic implications of a changing world order. The new edition also includes more material on the transition from war to peace, and looks at arms control and deterrence, considering in particular the growing tension between Iran and the West over its nuclear weapons programme. The new edition sees substantial updating throughout, prefaced by a rewritten introduction, and provides a comprehensive and insightful collection of contributions from a team of leading experts in the field. Democracy And Security written by Matthew Evangelista and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-12-04 with History categories.

It has become generally accepted wisdom that democracies do not go to war against each other. However, there are significant differences between democratic states in terms of their approach to war and security policy in general. This edited book offers a broad examination of how democratic preferences and norms are relevant to security policy beyond the decision of whether to go to war. It therefore offers a fresh understanding of state behaviour in the security realm. The contributors discuss such issues as defence policy, air war, cluster bombs, non-lethal weapons, weapons of mass destruction, democratic and non-democratic nuclear weapon states’ transparency, and the political and ideological background of the ongoing ‘Revolution in Military Affairs’. It has become generally accepted wisdom that democracies do not go to war against each other. However, there are significant differences between democratic states in terms of their approach to war and security policy in general.
