The book integrates theory, numerical methods, and practical applications seamlessly. MATLAB and MathCad programs are provided for readers to master the theory, understand the approach, and to further develop and apply the methods to geological problems. Multiscale and multi-physics investigations of Earth and planetary processes have been an active trend of research in Earth Sciences, thanks to the development of scientific computation and computer software and hardware. Based on the author's research and teaching over the past 15 years, the book stands alone as the first comprehensive text in unifying fundamental continuum micromechanics theory, geometric/kinematic analysis, and applications. The book should appeal to a broad audience of students and researchers, particularly those in the fields of structural geology, tectonics, (natural and experimental) rock deformation, mineral physics and rheology, and numerical modeling of multiscale and coupling processes.

Micromechanics Of Fracture And Damage written by Luc Dormieux and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-07 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book deals with the mechanics and physics of fractures at various scales. Based on advanced continuum mechanics of heterogeneous media, it develops a rigorous mathematical framework for single macrocrack problems as well as for the effective properties of microcracked materials. In both cases, two geometrical models of cracks are examined and discussed: the idealized representation of the crack as two parallel faces (the Griffith crack model), and the representation of a crack as a flat elliptic or ellipsoidal cavity (the Eshelby inhomogeneity problem). The book is composed of two parts: The first part deals with solutions to 2D and 3D problems involving a single crack in linear elasticity. Elementary solutions of cracks problems in the different modes are fully worked. Various mathematical techniques are presented, including Neuber-Papkovitch displacement potentials, complex analysis with conformal mapping and Eshelby-based solutions. The second part is devoted to continuum micromechanics approaches of microcracked materials in relation to methods and results presented in the first part. Various estimates and bounds of the effective elastic properties are presented. They are considered for the formulation and application of continuum micromechanics-based damage models.

Atomistic and Continuum Modeling of Nanocrystalline Materials develops a complete and rigorous state-of-the-art analysis of the modeling of the mechanical behavior of nanocrystalline (NC) materials. Among other key topics, the material focuses on the novel techniques used to predict the behavior of nanocrystalline materials. Particular attention is given to recent theoretical and computational frameworks combining atomistic and continuum approaches. Also, the most relevant deformation mechanisms governing the response of nanocrystalline materials are addressed and discussed in correlation with available experimental data.

Mechanics Of Microstructured Materials written by Helmut J. Böhm and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-04 with Science categories.

The work deals with the thermomechanical mechanical behavior of microstructured materials, which has attracted considerable interest from both the academic and the industrial research communities. The past decade has witnessed major progress in the development of analytical as well as numerical modeling approaches and of experimental methods in this field. Considerable research efforts have been aimed at obtaining microstructure-property correlations and at studying the damage and failure behavior of microstructured materials. The book combines an overview of important analytical and numerical modeling approaches in continuum micromechanics and is aimed at academic and industrial researchers, such as materials scientists, mechanical engineers, and applied physicists, who are working or planning to work in the field of mechanics of microstructured materials such as composites, metals and ceramics.

Continuum Models for Materials with Microstructure Edited by H. B. Mühlhaus, CSIRO, Nedlands, Australia When the characteristic length-scale (‘fabric dimension’) of the microstructure of materials is not small when compared to the macroscopic dimensions, the well established framework for the modelling of deformation processes for simple materials needs enhancement. To introduce an internal length scale, one has to resort to continuum models such as Nonlocal Theories, Cosserat or Gradient-type Models, Discrete Element and Lattice Theories or modified Viscoplastic Models. These new approaches are addressed in this volume. It includes contributions from research areas as diverse as bio-mechanics, concrete engineering and solid state physics. Generalised continuum models and its applications are presented and complemented by numerical and analytical tools for the solution of boundary value problems.

Scaling Limits In Statistical Mechanics And Microstructures In Continuum Mechanics written by Errico Presutti and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-11-01 with Mathematics categories.

Collective behavior in systems with many components, blow-ups with emergence of microstructures are proofs of the double, continuum and atomistic, nature of macroscopic systems, an issue which has always intrigued scientists and philosophers. Modern technologies have made the question more actual and concrete with recent, remarkable progresses also from a mathematical point of view. The book focuses on the links connecting statistical and continuum mechanics and, starting from elementary introductions to both theories, it leads to actual research themes. Mathematical techniques and methods from probability, calculus of variations and PDE are discussed at length.
