A obra é um ensaio de poíesis crítica pela apologia das artes. Trata-se, na filosofia das artes, de uma nova epistemologia voltada às questões da linguagem e da ideologia – ao mesmo tempo hermenêutica e dialética, existencial e crítica. Se, em Marx e Engels, há uma práxis crítica e, na Escola de Frankfurt, uma theoría crítica, com a poíesis crítica pretende-se preencher a lacuna do esquecimento da poíesis e solucionar a confusão entre práxis e poíesis. Definindo a elaboração da obra de linguagem enquanto processo crítico-inventivo, a poíesis não é teórica nem prática. Para a poíesis crítica importa o lógos poético, prosseguindo não apenas os trabalhos iniciados por Heidegger, mas também desde Heráclito e Aristóteles. Com a poíesis crítica se evidencia o abismo que há hoje entre as artes e a indústria da cultura. Os estudos abrangem também as diferenças entre linguagem e comunicação; entre obra de arte e kitsch. Entre outras questões contemporâneas, propõe-se uma discussão acerca do eurocentrismo e da decolonialidade – ambas ideologias neoliberais da cultura que têm gerado uma aversão às artes e em especial à música. O que deveria ser compreendido por conta dos desdobramentos históricos de milênios – desde os tempos dos odeões e teatros greco-romanos – foi agora estigmatizado com o rótulo antipático da tal música clássica erudita europeia, deturpando a essência da arte do som no tempo. Entretanto, o clássico não se opõe ao popular, mas sim à condição experimental ou ainda não consagrada das artes – e estas não são prerrogativas europeias – bem como a mera erudição não é suficiente para a constituição da poíesis. Tanto o culturalismo quanto a sua configuração mais sectária, o identitarismo, ambos hostis às artes, são definidos aqui por conta das suas implicações neoliberais. Com a censura identitária redutiva ao domínio cultural europeu, ignora-se a influência maior dos EUA – não obstante a invasão, em toda parte, da sua indústria da cultura. Se por um lado, os identitários neoliberais são agressivamente antagônicos às artes milenares, por outro, na sua idolatria pseudointelectual, só recortam da realidade os clichês da indústria da cultura ianque-estadunidense. Até mesmo as nossas periferias, invadidas culturalmente e assim reduzidas a pseudoperiferias, espelham as vozes dos grandes centros do capital. O autor questiona ainda os preconceitos suscitados pela moral identitária, quando se esquece não só a poíesis, mas também a acumulação do capital e a luta de classes. Importa reconhecer o neoliberalismo e o seu fetiche, a indústria da cultura, enquanto estruturas ideológicas que determinam a consciência da sociedade. Indústria da cultura e identitarismo são o ópio do povo estendido, pois estabelecem a alienação e a coisificação onde a religião não conseguiu se entranhar. A religião (o braço direito), a indústria da cultura (o seu fetiche) e o identitarismo (o braço esquerdo) formam a Santíssima Trindade do neoliberalismo, sob as bênçãos do capital financeiro. Por fim, estética, cultura, comunicação e identidade são conceitos compreendidos pela poíesis crítica enquanto neologismos tardios e extrínsecos à natureza da arte. Desse modo, no contexto das artes, amplia-se o rol dos monstros engendrados pelo sonho da razão iluminista.
