Diseño y es tudio de viabilidad de planta depuradora Marc Fructuoso Martín mediante lagunas de alta carga Curso 2014 - 2015 1 Resumen La s lagunas de alta carga (HRAP) son una versión mejorada del sistema de depuración de aguas con lagunaje tradicional. A caballo entre las propiedades de las lagunas tradicionales y las estaciones depuradoras de agua residual (EDARs) convencionales, las HRAP ofrecen una depuración igual de eficiente que tratamientos convencionales, con la ventaja de que el pr oceso de depuración se realiza de forma natural, con poca demanda energética y un coste de inversión bajo , utilizando para ello una superficie menor que la empleada en lagunas tradicionales, pues los tiempos de retención hidráulicos son menores . Además, la posibilidad de separación de la biomasa algal abre la puerta a un mundo de oportunidades con su aprovechamiento, con el potencial de conseguir una planta autosuficiente energéticamente y/o con recuperación de nutrientes como el nitrógeno o el fósforo. En la presente tesina, se ha estudiado la viabilidad de este tipo de instalaciones para el saneamiento a escala industrial de agua residual con el posterior aprovechamiento de la biomasa generada. El trabajo consta de dos fases principales: la caracterizació n de las lagunas de alta carga mediante ensayos de laboratorio y, una vez caracterizadas, el diseño de una planta de tratamiento integral mediante la utilización de estas HRAP y el estudio de su aplicabilidad y viabilidad económica. Los ensayos (pH, Tempe ratura, Oxígeno Disuelto, Turbidez, Alcalinidad, Demanda Química de Oxígeno, Amonio, Materia En Suspensión, Sólidos Totales y Volátiles) fueron llevados a cabo en los meses de verano de 2013, dentro del proyecto de investigación del grupo GEMMA, Wastewater treatment with algal based culture and biofuel production from algal biomass , obteniendo rendimientos de depuración del 80 - 95% . Para contar con datos de mayor solidez estadística, también se utilizaron datos procedentes de los ensayos de estudios predeces ores en este mismo proyecto, así como se ceden los resultados de los experimentos propios para su uso en investigación posterior. Tras el diseño y estudio energético y económico de la planta, y una comparativa con una EDAR convencional, se concluye que mediante HRAP podemos diseñar una planta viable en un ambiente rural, con amplia disponibilidad de superficie. A cambio de aumentar en 4 veces la superficie necesaria, las HRAP ofr ecen un menor coste de inversión y, sobre todo, operación, pues se consume un 75% menos energía, no es necesaria la adición de aditivos químicos y los residuos del tratamiento pueden ser reutilizados y generar un beneficio en forma de fertilizantes agrícol as , en vez de un coste de traslado a vertedero . No obstante, este sistema no es todo lo bueno que se podr ía desear, dado que la biomasa generada en estas condiciones produce un biogás muy pobre energéticamente que hace replantearse la utilización de un dig estor anaerobio (que absorbe el 40% de los gastos tanto de inversión como energéticos) , pues se está lejos de la autosuficiencia. En el final de este estudio, se proponen métodos de mejora para paliar este déficit.
