In Control in an Age of Empowerment, Robert Simons explains how to give employees the freedom to innovate while protecting your firm from loose cannons. Using powerful examples, Simons shows how to apply four powerful management "levers" to balance autonomy with control: Traditional diagnostic control systems, Belief systems, Boundary systems, and Interactive control systems. Used in concert, these four levers give you the control you need--without sacrificing the creative thinking your company can't do without. Since 1922, Harvard Business Review has been a leading source of breakthrough ideas in management practice. The Harvard Business Review Classics series now offers you the opportunity to make these seminal pieces a part of your permanent management library. Each highly readable volume contains a groundbreaking idea that continues to shape best practices and inspire countless managers around the world.

Empowering Workers In An Age Of Automation written by Tom Parr and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-02-14 with Philosophy categories.
Empowering Workers in an Age of Automation explores how labour market policymakers should respond to the threats and opportunities that arise from automation, artificial intelligence, and other forms of technological progress. The book's aim is twofold. First, it is to develop and defend a novel philosophical framework for theorizing about the demands of social justice in the labour market, which Parr calls 'the empowerment model'. At the heart of this view is a concern for fairness and, more specifically, a concern for the growing inequality in prospects between members of the working-class and their middle- and upper-class counterparts. Second, it is to examine a range of concrete political controversies relating to labour markets and the future of work in the light of the empowerment model. The analysis presented is wide-ranging, and includes discussion of technological unemployment, the four day work week, the gender earnings gap, working from home, and role of higher education. Throughout the text, Parr is keen to caution against sensationalist narratives, and instead emphasizes the more prosaic but still hugely consequential ways in which technology is changing how we work. To do this, he draws on a wealth of empirical research, and extensively from findings in labour economics. The result is a book that takes seriously, and aims to shed light on, some of the most pressing challenges that we actually face.

In today’s modern world, persistent violence against vulnerable groups and minorities permeates societies, making it difficult for them to flourish. Empowering these groups has never been more important as society attempts to evolve and focus on inclusion. To understand the best practices and challenges of empowerment for minorities, further study is required. Fighting for Empowerment in an Age of Violence analyzes the different forms of violence against vulnerable groups and minorities, states their civil rights, and illustrates the forms of weakening and violence supported by authorities against their own citizens. The book also highlights the challenges for people marked as unequal or weak and the possibilities that the 21st century offers to empower them. Covering topics such as gender roles, political violence, societal security, and globalization, this reference work is ideal for government officials, sociologists, psychologists, politicians, security experts, activists, researchers, academicians, practitioners, scholars, educators, and students.

Pink, author of A WHOLE NEW MIND: WHY RIGHT-BRAINERS WILLL RULE THE FUTURE and DRIVE: THE SURPRISING TRUTH ABOUT WHAT MOTIVATES US "The New Health Age offer a succinct primer on how we got here and where we should be taking the health of our nation" —Mehmet Oz, M.D., host of The Dr. Oz Show The Information Age? Think again. Change is everywhere: how we communicate, what we do for a living, the values we hold, the way we raise our children, even the way we access information. Thanks to a global economy, the force of the Internet, and the explosion of mobile technology, we have—almost imperceptibly—been ushered into a new era, the Shift Age, in which change happens so quickly that it's become the norm. Man-made developments—such as tools, machines, and technology—defined previous ages, but the Shift Age will be defined by our own power of choice. In Entering the Shift Age, leading futurist David Houle argues that we are going through a major collapse of legacy thinking, eroding many of the thought structures that have defined the last two hundred years of humanity. Houle identifies and explains the new forces that will shape our lives—including remote workplaces, the cloud, "24/7" culture, speed-of-light connectivity, creativity, and the influence of Millenials and Digital Natives—for the next twenty years. In this eye-opening book, Houle navigates this pivotal point in human history with clarity and anticipation, focusing on the power of human consciousness and the direct influence we can impart on everything from healthcare to media to education. According to Houle, we are more independent than ever before. We are in control. There's no "going back" to the way things were. Reality is changing ever faster, and ENTERING THE SHIFT AGE is your guide to keeping up.

We are leaving the Information Age and transitioning into the Shift Age, a time of transformation and change that offers both great risk and incredible opportunity. In Entering the Shift Age, David Houle identifies and explains the dynamics and forces that have shaped our world and will continue to reshape our world for the next 20 years. He shows how the Shift Age means a world fully global yet focused on the individual, where the speed of change is so fast that change itself is the new norm. He also comments from the front lines of the Shift Age on issues and topics that affect our lives, from business and technology to environment, media and global culture. eBook 11 reviews the definition of Power and how the power structure is rapidly changing. In the Shift Age, it will largely move from the power of control (i.e., one or a few entities directly controlling large parts of society) to the power of influence (individuals being able to gain power by exerting their influence). Part 4: The Future of the Shift Age Introduction Chapter 25: Power
