Convection is ubiquitous throughout the Universe, and during the last three decades it has become the largest factor of uncertainty in theoretical models of stars and in the interpretation of observations on the basis of such models. Recently, numerical simulations of convection have dramatically improved in their potential to take into account both the large scale properties of the flow itself and the microphysical properties of the fluid. Observations have become accurate enough to provide stringent tests for both numerical simulations and models of convection. IAU S239 was held to further understanding of convection, bringing together leading researchers in solar and stellar physics, the physics of planets, and of accretion disks. With reviews, research contributions, and detailed recordings of plenary discussions, this book is a valuable resource for professional astronomers and graduate students interested in the interdisciplinary study of one of the key physical processes in astrophysics.

The Astrophysics Of Emission Line Stars written by Tomokazu Kogure and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-05-05 with Science categories.
Many types of stars show conspicuous emission lines in their optical spectra. These stars are broadly referred to as emission line stars. Emission line stars are attractive to many people because of their spectacular phenomena and their amazing varieties and variability. This book offers general information on emission line stars, starting from a brief introduction to stellar astrophysics, and then moving to a broad overview of emission line stars including early and late type stars as well as pre-main sequence stars. Detailed references and index are prepared for further reading. Tomokazu Kogure's email address: [email protected]

Stellar models are the very basic building blocks with which we build up our knowledge of the Universe. New numerical experiments are heralding a new level of sophistication in our ability to model, and understand, how stars work. This volume provides an overview and the most recent advances in modeling of stellar structure and evolution. Modeling of stars relies on our understanding of the detailed physical processes happening in stars, and the most recent observations of stars made by modern large telescopes and current high technologies. IAU Symposium 252 presents the most recent developments in five key areas, including: improvements of the physical ingredients of stellar models; the evolution of low and intermediate mass stars; the evolution of massive stars; close binary evolution; and stellar physics in the era of very large telescopes. This overview of stellar research is at a level suitable for research astronomers and graduate students.

IAU Symposium 240, held in conjunction with the 26th General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union, highlights the latest advances in the field of binary and multiple stars, and was the first major meeting in recent years bringing together members of both the 'wide' and 'close' binary communities. Topics discussed ranged from common proper motion pairs and other 'fragile' binaries to contact binaries and star/brown-dwarf/planet systems, exploring the numerous interests common to all binary star researchers. Highlights included talks on observing binaries using high angular and spectral resolution techniques, the impacts of new and planned large-scale surveys, recent models for binary evolution, new methods for analyzing cataclysmic pairs and disentangling spectra, surveys of extragalactic eclipsing binaries, Doppler tomography and imaging, and binaries as probes of the Galaxy's chemical and dynamical evolution. This volume will be an important reference source for binary star researchers for many years to come.
