Knowledge is power, but this is especially true for teams carrying out a project. As in other arenas, the effective use of knowledge is possible only if it is readily accessible, well organized, properly analyzed, and competently disseminated to meet the project needs. Knowledge gained from project failures or successes is vital for the long term sustainability of organizations to compete in the business environment. This book focuses on the proper access and delivery methods for explicit knowledge in projects and also concentrates on tacit knowledge unknown and unavailable to most people in project environments. Every project is unique with start and end dates, detailed project plan, budget, schedule, human resources, and deliverables, and all these areas have a high volume of rich knowledge. Knowledge is created and flows through all nine project knowledge areas: Project Integration Management; Project Scope Management; Project Time Management; Project Cost Management; Project Quality Management; Project Human Resources Management; Project Communications Management; Project Risk Management; and Project Procurement Management. This book discusses the benefits of managing knowledge in projects and provides techniques that will increase the rate of return on projects. Addressing strategy and deployment issues, this volume also provides case studies, making this an invaluable tool for the success of projects and sustainability/growth of organizations.

Modern project management is different from what it was ten years ago. New methods and tools have been developed, the number of projects and members in project teams has increased, professionalism in project management has generally increased, and projects have become highly complex. Parallel to this, artificial intelligence, automation, information and communication technology, human resources management, and many other areas are being developed, which will continue to impact project management in the future significantly. At the same time, new generations of young people are entering the labour market with different needs and expectations for project work. The authors of the book provide decision-makers, project workers, and students with an insight into the modern challenges of project management due to digitization, artificial intelligence and project economy. The book is based on knowledge of classic management principles but does not follow them blindly, arguing that modern project management is based on people, their values, and the intelligent use of methods, techniques, and emerging technologies.

The world economy in which we are living poses challenges that lead to a realization that 'more of the same' will be difficult to sustain. This provides an illustration that, in order to create new or modified knowledge practices, strengthen customer relationships and thus positively influence customer satisfaction, organizations must be flexible in configuring (combining) knowledge and knowledge structures in a way that is appropriate for delivering value to the customer. It must simultaneously develop effective strategies for updating the knowledge of its staff members necessary for underpinning the creation and delivery of appropriate knowledge services. Thus, unlearning (forgetting) becomes a critical means for organizational success. The ECKM community of scholars has already initiated dialogue that links its particular strengths to innovation issues. This conference aims to further that dialogue by attracting leading edge work that leverages the ECKM community's in-depth understanding of learning and unlearning to better understand knowledge management. Our aim is to stimulate breakthrough research streams linking learning, unlearning and knowledge management. How can organizations tailor, use, and extend techniques and tools from knowledge management for improving their business practices and processes? Building upon existing work on knowledge management (KM) and organizational learning, the conference will promote interdisciplinary approaches from computer science and information systems, business, management and organization science as well as cognitive science. Emphasis will be put on systematic learning from experience, KM tools and KM success factors. A special interest belongs to knowledge management initiatives which are lightweight (i.e., do not place considerable additional burden on users and KM experts), allow an incremental adoption (i.e., do not require large up-front investment before any return of investment is at least visible), and are flexible regarding frequent changes in experts and topics. Continuing the success of the ECKM conference series since 2000, the 2015 conference will provide an international communication forum bringing together academia and industry for discussing the progress made and addressing the challenges faced by continuous learning in knowledge-intensive organizations.
