Brief relief from the persistent warmth was felt from the central and northern Great Plains to the Middle Atlantic States as cool, dry air moved southeastward at midweek. Minimum temperatures dropped to the 4o's as far south as the Oklahoma Panhandle, and the 36 reading at Valentine, Nebraska, on Thursday was the lowest there for so early in September; but warm, humid conditions returned to most areas by the weekend. Body entirely covered with fine yellowish and ashen pubescence, giving it a general color more gray and less red than related species. Base of antennae, tibiae and tarsi are of a more clear red Rostrum is longer than the head and prothorax together. The eyes project notice ably when viewed from above. Prothorax has a light ashen median line. Anterior femora have a strong, projecting tooth, anterior tibiae sinuous, enlarged toward middle. On the elytra, there is a chevron of ashen hairs which runs into bands of dark brown. Larva whitish. Pupa pale yellow. Coolest Weather is anticipated for the Northern Rocky Mountain States. Precipitation is expected to exceed normal over the Pacific Northwest and intermountain areas as well as in a broad belt extending from the lower Missouri Valley eastward through the Great Lakes and New England. Subnormal rainfall is predicted for the Northern Plains and also in a zone extending from the Southern Plains through the Ohio Valley. In unspecified areas near normal amounts are in prospect.
