The characteristics of "Co-operative Process Management" covered in this book concern the requirements of the dynamic situation "per se" as well as the requirements of the co-operation. Important factors are that no single person can have an overview of the situation; that expertise is distributed both temporally and qualitatively; that the ongoing process has to be represented in some way whether or not computerized; that co-operation is dependent on formal as well as informal information transfer; that predictions of the developing situation have to be performed; and that knowledge and skills of the participants must develop on different levels. What results is a book which covers analyses, field studies, micro-world studies, training and the creation of computer artefacts under the Co-operative Process Management umbrella.; This book should be of interest to those engaged in research or building applications in a dynamic co-operative information technology environment. It presents the work of some of the world's leading researchers from the four corners of CSCW, HCI, Process Control and Cognitive Ergonomics

Excerpt from Creating "Co-Op Fever" A Rural Developer's Guide to Forming Cooperatives Minnesota Corn Processors at Marshall, Minn, used a similar model to create a corn wet milling plant. The plants generated delivery rights for farmers and also required them to deliver the agreed-upon amount of beets or corn. Farmers who chose not to deliverrisked the loss of their equity investments. The pro cessing facilities were assured of a dedicated supply of raw product. The producers who joined the corn processing cooperative also agreed to deliver, and if necessary, at prices below the market rate. This was necessary to assure adequate operating margins at the processing facility. This provided a way to limit operating losses and encourage lenders to finance the project. When American Crystal Sugar cooperative was created, there were no other outlets for sugar beets in the Red River Valley. To ensure successful cash flow, the new cooperative spread out payments to growers during the course of a processing and marketing year. The final payment reflected the actual operating mar gins achieved. The volume required for an efficient processing operation was assured. This created a strategic advantage over other competing processing plants that lacked captive supplies. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
