Heating and Cooling of Air Through Coils combines theory and practice to cover the fundamentals in the processes of heating and cooling of air through coils and the key aspects in the psychrometric chart, the coil fluid piping systems, the coils, and the energy sources for the fluid in the coils. This book covers the integral elements that have a significant impact on the heating and cooling of air through coils, including the coil types, coil tube constructions and arrangements, and fluid flow characteristics in the coils. It also discusses sustainable and renewable energy sources used to heat and cool the fluid flowing in the piping system and the coils. In addition, the book covers the application of coils in central air-conditioning systems and split air-conditioning systems. Presents the fundamentals of heating and cooling of air through coils. Explains the psychrometric chart used for assessing the physical and thermodynamic properties of air in the heating and cooling processes. Covers numerous coil types and constructions. Discusses the key equipment used in the coil fluid piping systems that deliver hot water, steam, condensate, and chilled water to and from the coils. Considers various energy sources to the fluid in the coil piping system for heating and cooling, including solar heat energy, ocean thermal energy, and geothermal energy. This book will interest engineers and researchers involved in the design and operation of heat exchangers and HVAC systems. It can also be used as a textbook for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in relevant fields, such as thermal and fluids HVAC, and energy management.

In science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in pre-college, engineering is not the silent "e" anymore. There is an accelerated interest in teaching engineering in all grade levels. Structured engineering programs are emerging in schools as well as in out-of-school settings. Over the last ten years, the number of states in the US including engineering in their K-12 standards has tripled, and this trend will continue to grow with the adoption of the Next Generation Science Standards. The interest in pre-college engineering education stems from three different motivations. First, from a workforce pipeline or pathway perspective, researchers and practitioners are interested in understanding precursors, influential and motivational factors, and the progression of engineering thinking. Second, from a general societal perspective, technological literacy and understanding of the role of engineering and technology is becoming increasingly important for the general populace, and it is more imperative to foster this understanding from a younger age. Third, from a STEM integration and education perspective, engineering processes are used as a context to teach science and math concepts. This book addresses each of these motivations and the diverse means used to engage with them.Designed to be a source of background and inspiration for researchers and practitioners alike, this volume includes contributions on policy, synthesis studies, and research studies to catalyze and inform current efforts to improve pre-college engineering education. The book explores teacher learning and practices, as well as how student learning occurs in both formal settings, such as classrooms, and informal settings, such as homes and museums. This volume also includes chapters on assessing design and creativity.

Engineering Curricula written by National Academy of Engineering and has been published by National Academies Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-01-24 with Education categories.

In April 2009 a workshop was held to explore how engineering curricula could be enhanced to better prepare future engineers. The workshop, summarized in this volume, included individuals from industry, academia, government agencies, and professional societies. During the workshop participants addressed the rationale for the scope and sequence of current engineering curricula, considering both the positive aspects as well as those aspects that have outlived their usefulness. Other topics of discussion included the potential to enhance engineering curricula through creative uses of instructional technologies; the importance of inquiry-based activities as well as authentic learning experiences grounded in real world contexts; and the opportunities provided by looking more deeply at what personal and professional outcomes result from studying engineering. General themes that appeared to underlie the workshop attendees' discussions included desires to (a) restructure engineering curricula to focus on inductive teaching and learning, (b) apply integrated, just-in-time learning of relevant topics across STEM fields, and (c) make more extensive use and implementation of learning technologies. During breakout discussions, many additional suggestions were offered for means by which to facilitate curricular innovation.

Several states offer additional teacher preparation programs by providing either an endorsement or certification in the field, but these are often pursued by teachers specifically enrolled in gifted coursework rather than in general education programs. Practitioners and researchers agree that time and energy should be spent on training teachers in how to address the needs of gifted and talented students, both within the regular classroom and in specialized programs. This three-book series acknowledges this need and provides specific strategies for professional development in a variety of settings using various methods. Drawing on both literature in the field and research-based best practices in professional learning, this series provides the reader with a foundation for designing and implementing effective professional development experiences for educators working with gifted learners. This volume: Provides strategies and curricular materials/resources for working with gifted learners in specific content areas (i.e., mathematics, science, social studies, literacy, languages, and the arts). Discusses the importance of training teachers to use high-quality curriculum. Builds off of research on talent development, cultural awareness, and social justice in education. Details instructional strategies that are appropriate for challenging gifted learners, including developing growth mindset. A service publication of the National Association for Gifted Children (Washington, DC) This designation indicates that this book has been jointly developed with NAGC and that this book passes the highest standards of scholarship, research, and practice.
