Magnetism Of Surfaces Interfaces And Nanoscale Materials written by Robert E. Camley and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-27 with Science categories.
In the past 30 years, magnetic research has been dominated by the question of how surfaces and interfaces influence the magnetic and transport properties of nanostructures, thin films and multilayers. The research has been particularly important in the magnetic recording industry where the giant magnetoresistance effect led to a new generation of storage devices including hand-held memories such as those found in the ipod. More recently, transfer of spin angular momentum across interfaces has opened a new field for high frequency applications. This book gives a comprehensive view of research at the forefront of these fields. The frontier is expanding through dynamic exchange between theory and experiment. Contributions have been chosen to reflect this, giving the reader a unified overview of the topic. - Addresses both theory and experiment that are vital for gaining an essential understanding of topics at the interface between magnetism and materials science - Chapters written by experts provide great insights into complex material - Discusses fundamental background material and state-of-the-art applications, serving as an indispensable guide for students and professionals at all levels of expertise - Stresses interdisciplinary aspects of the field, including physics, chemistry, nanocharacterization, and materials science - Combines basic materials with applications, thus widening the scope of the book and its readership

Mechanisms Of High Temperature Superconductivity written by Hiroshi Kamimura and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-07 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Since the discovery by Bednorz and Müller of Cu-O alloys displaying high temperature superconductivity, great energy has been put into research in this field. One of the most important and interesting issues, and the subject of this volume, is the clarification of the microscopic origin and mechanism of high temperature superconductivity. This book discusses the latest experimental results on magnetic, optical, electrical, thermal and mechanical properties of the Cu-O and Bi-O superconductors, as well as proposed theoretical models of the mechanisms. The participants in the symposium agreed that for the high Tc Cu-O superconductors electron correlation effects are of central importance. For the Bi-O superconductors the main topic was whether the mechanism of superconductivity is the same as that of high Tc Cu-O superconductors. What was and what was not resolved at the symposium is summarized at the end of the volume.

Band Ferromagnetism written by K. Baberschke and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-01-11 with Science categories.
The fascinating phenomenon ferromagnetism is far from being fully understood, although it surely belongs to the oldest problems of solid state physics. For any investigation it appears recommendable to distinguish between materials whose spontaneous magnetization stems from localized electrons of a partially ?lled atomic shell and those in which it is due to itinerant electrons of a partially ?lled conduction band. In the latter case one speaks of band-ferromagnetism, prototypes of which are the classical ferromagnets Fe, Co, and Ni. The present book is a status report on the remarkable progress that has recently been made towards a microscopic understanding of band-ferromagnetism as an electron c- relation e?ect. The authors of the various chapters of this book “Band-Ferromagnetism: Ground-State and Finite-Temperature Phenomena” participated as selected - perts in the 242nd WE-Heraeus-Seminar (4-6 October 2000) held under almost the same title in Wandlitz near Berlin (Germany). It was the second seminar of this type in Wandlitz. (The ?rst in 1998 dealt with the complementary topic of the physics of local-moment ferromagnets such as Gd). Twenty-six invited spe- ers from ten di?erent countries together with ?fty-?ve further participants, who presented contributions in form of posters, spent three days together discussing in an enthusiastic and fertile manner the hot topics of band-ferromagnetism.

Chemical Applications Of Synchrotron Radiation written by Tsun-Kong Sham and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Science categories.
The synchrotron light source is becoming widely available, after its evolution from its infancy in the sixties to the present third generation source with insertion devices. It is timely to examine the impact that synchrotron light has made and will continue to make on chemical research. With this objective in mind, the editor of this invaluable book invited contributions from practitioners who are in the forefront of the research. The book summarizes most of the significant developments in the last decade in chemical and related research using synchrotron light. The utilization of the light as a probe as well as an energy source is emphasized. This book is organized into two parts, in order of increasing photon energy. Part I deals with the applications of low energy photons and covers areas such as gas phase photodissociation reactions and dynamics, soft X-ray fluorescence, IR and photoemission analysis of surfaces, spectroscopy of organic and polymeric materials, catalysts, electronic and magnetic materials, and spectromicroscopy. Part II encompasses applications using soft to hard X-rays, including spectroscopy of surface and thin films, XAFS, diffraction and scattering, and several technological applications, namely the microprobe, photoetching and tribology.

This book gives an account of the creative work of theorists at the largest Soviet secret laboratory, now the Russian Federal Nuclear Center at Arzamas-16, and concrete situations where some famous results on the essentials of theoretical physics emerged, so to speak, in the intermissions of the quest for bombs. The collection contains about 30 papers with brief comments. Some of them have received international recognition. But few people can conceive where they were written, since the publication of a paper by a secret physicist in a Soviet journal was supported by fictitious affiliations. Other papers are less well known, particularly because Soviet journals were not always translated into European languages. However, pioneer results contained in them merit more attention.
