În această carte, încerc, de fapt, să-mi schimb instrumentele şi felul de a scrie critica literară. Pentru că însăşi condiţia criticii literare s-a schimbat. Dintr-un gen diurn, care atingea o maximă strălucire – vezi explozia ei, din deceniile ’60 – ’80, când devenise genul dominant al literaturii –, critica a devenit o disciplină aproape subversivă, practicată pe ascuns (în Universitate) sau în locuri dosnice (revistele literare, care au – toate – tiraje confidenţiale). Critica s-a transformat, aşadar, fără să vrea, într-un gen nocturn, practicat de „lunatici” şi accesibil numai acestora. Tinerii scriitori îi refuză diagnosticul, cei mai vârstnici se supără dacă nu sunt lăudaţi peste măsură, iar presa îi dă cu tifla, subliniind în orice împrejurare superioritatea (şi avantajele) publicităţii, în raport cu deşueta judecată de valoare. Şi aceasta, deoarece acea splendidă explozie a metodelor de lectură, a formelor şi modalităţilor critice, din deceniile anterioare, a secătuit de fapt disciplina. Şi a multiplicat la nesfârşit posibilităţile interpretării, până când înţelesul textului literar a devenit cu totul obscur şi, în fond, chiar facultativ. Totul este pus sub semnul întrebării, iar sacrosancta valoare estetică, pe care jura critică modernistă, a fost de mult relegată din discursul critic. Care discurs începe să semene, astfel, cu o noapte adâncă, în care mai pâlpâie, ici-colo, asemenea unor stele palide, rămăşitele unor certitudini. / Răzvan Voncu
