It describes how pulpit rhetoric sustained a dialogue that enabled the development of the three main Anglican missionary societies.

Many people struggle to find purpose and meaning in their corporate or business job. Are you one of them? Called to Corporate is written from the perspective of a service-minded young woman who never intended to have a corporate career but was called by God to work in a corporation. There, she found her purpose and vocation, while also growing in faith and Christian character in day-to-day business life. This book is a compilation of personal reflections and insights on faith in the workplace and focuses on the vocation and call to work in business and how we can grow in holiness in this space. It is especially useful for those employed in business or corporate environments; however, any professional can find value in its lessons. Called to Corporate explores many aspects of the workplace: learning from difficult situations, encountering our weaknesses and sins, being a beacon of light to those around us, growing in love and virtue, finding our purpose and mission, and deepening our relationship with God and our character through twists and turns, joys and setbacks. The book provides practical spiritual practices for the working professional, reflection questions, as well as examples of how to find and encounter God in daily workplace experiences. It also offers insights on leadership and work performance from a faith perspective.

What Does the Body - Physical & Social - Have to Do With Holiness? Modern Western Christianity has too often seen holiness and growth in Christian character as exclusively an individual and "spiritual" (or non-physical) matter. Centered on a suggestive proposal about "the sanctified body" by Stanley Hauerwas, the essays in this provocative volume argue contrary to that tendency, insisting that any genuine Christian holiness is vitally related to our physical and social bodies. Along with way, the essayists trace crucial confusions in ecclesiology, prayer and social action to the distorted nonbodily understanding of sanctification. Essays and authors include "The Sanctified Body" by Stanley Hauerwas "The Human Person as Intercessory Prayer" by Craig Keen "Tacit Holiness" by Rodney Clapp "Holiness as the Renewal of the Image of God in the Individual & Society" by Theodore Runyon "Paying Attention: Holiness in the Life Writings of Early Methodist Women" by Joyce Quiring Erickson "The Once & Future Church Revisited" by Michael G. Cartwright "'And He Felt Compassion': Holiness Beyond the Bounds of Community" by Michael E. Lodahl "A Contribution to a Wesleyan Understanding of Holiness & Community" by Samuel M. Powell

We become the company we keep! This account of "holiness" invites unholy humans into holy community, connecting the individual's experience of holiness with God's own communal and social self. God deepens the experience through the forms of company we keep, tying the experience of holiness to participation in the loving mission of Jesus.

This book examines 2 Cor 6:14--7:1 and argues that its theological message is communal holiness. It culminates in an attempt to posit a Pauline theology of corporate sanctification in the Corinthian correspondence. Paul's view of sanctification, it is argued, should be seen as multifaceted: relational, communal, ethical, and mission-oriented. Thus, a coherent picture of Pauline teaching on holiness in the Corinthian correspondence emerges from this book. For Paul, the focus of God's redemptive activity is, primarily, the community and not the individual. Paul's view on holiness has to do with communal holiness within the people of God, the goal of which is to make God known to the wider society. In sum, this book argues that the teaching on holiness should not be, and cannot be, satisfactorily explained in terms of the individual, but only as the individual stands in relation to the community of faith. Thus, the conclusion offers a corrective to some strands of modern interpretation that emphasize the individualistic, experiential aspects of Christian holiness, thus tending to reduce Christian holiness to morality.

Social Holiness is a concept distinctive to John Wesley's thinking, describing how Christian community nurtures and practices its faith in relation to the social order. The character of Christian identity and the qualities of Christian discipleship become meaningful only as they emerge from and are nurtured within a corporate context. They find their ultimate goal as they permeate the structures of the social order, proving the Christian claim to God given possibilities for transformation through Christ for both individual persons and corporate structures.
