Talent is not a matter of status, nor a sub-component of personality, nor a commodity that can be quantified or measured. This book consists of two parts. The first offers a fertile resource (epistemological and theoretical) to consider the notion of talent, as well as notions of potential, intelligence and business skills. The second part, in turn, investigates ten major families of talents (or “Natural Operating Modes”). From Marie Curie to Walt Disney, Hans Zimmer, Gabrielle Chanel and Claude Lévi-Strauss, the illustrations and examples are intended to be precise and demonstrative. Skills relating to observation, evaluation and elucidation are developed in detail and complemented with concrete examples. Both managers and employees can use this book to acquire the solid bases required to potentiate and develop their talents within their respective company and beyond.

This IES report is based on research with 23 organisations in varied sectors. By speaking directly to practitioners, the study sought to identify how organisations are tackling talent management and particularly the factors driving their choices. A four-step model is presented, reinforced by practical examples. Definition: what do we mean by talent management in this organisation? Focus: which jobs and groups of people will talent management focus on? Process: how will talent management be done in practice? Action: what are the practical outcomes of talent management? Choices in approach were found to be very dependent on the business context. For each of the four steps, a set of business moderators was identified which seem to condition the choices made. These moderators concern the business drivers for talent management, the business risks to be addressed, the capability of managers implementing the processes, and the measures the organisation will use to determine the impact of talent management. The report also offers a set of learning points, illustrated by practical examples in the text. These include several aspects of how to align the approach to talent management with current and future business needs; balancing short-term with longer-term outcomes; consideration of organisational culture and the readiness of managers to support talent identification and development. Successful implementation requires both the support of top leadership and the engagement of the wider HR community, not just talent specialists.

Scientific Essay from the year 2018 in the subject Psychology - Work, Business, Organisational and Economic Psychology, grade: A, University College London, language: English, abstract: Finding and retaining the right employees is a critical element for the success of each Multinational Enterprise (MNE). Over the last few years, the interest in the field of talent management has grown rapidly, as more and more academics, consultants and practitioners are starting to understand its impact on organisational sustainability and organisational prosperity. Talent management can be broadly defined as “all organizational activities for the purpose of attracting, selecting, developing, and retaining the best employees in the most strategic roles (those roles necessary to achieve organizational strategic priorities) on a global scale” (Scullion, Collings, & Caligiuri, 2010). At the center of talent management lies the presumption that “talent” must be identified, sustained, and allocated to important positions that are essential for the competitive advantage of the company. One of the major challenges for MNEs is to adequately identify high-potential and high-performing employees and to establish them in key positions within the MNE’s international structure. Taking this into consideration, in the following work, we will focus primarily on the area of talent identification, starting with a differentiation between talent identification and talent development. Next, we will move on to an in-depth review of the existing literature on talent identification in recruiting and personnel selection. Consequently, we will briefly review the validity of the most implemented personnel selection tools. After that, we will assess the three tools currently used in your organisation. Finally, we will explore the future of talent identification and recruiting tools by taking into consideration the technological advancements in the last decade, and provide you with research-based recommendations and best-practices to increase the likelihood of finding the right employees for your organisation.
