A homossexualidade foi encarada por inúmeras décadas como desviante em seus aspectos morais e biológicos. Por essa perspectiva, era identificada como doença e, como tal, buscavam-se tratamentos visando à sua cura. Priorizando as causas biologizantes da doença, discutia-se qual o tratamento mais eficaz para curar os homossexuais, indo do confinamento até a reeducação e moldagem de caráter, incluindo injeções de insulina, terapia de choques e outros. Nesse sentido, o foco central de análise deste livro são os casos de homossexuais internados no sanatório Pinel (Pirituba, SP) sob o diagnóstico de inversão sexual nos anos 1920 a 1940. A pesquisa aqui apresentada busca compreender as representações e diferenciações forjadas pelos discursos médico e criminologista sobre a prática e o corpo do homossexual, classificando-os, indicando condutas de normatização e privando-os de uma vida sexual livre.
