Although most major cancers are occurring less frequently, some are on the rise and require greater efforts at control, including non-Hodgkin lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, cancers of the liver, pancreas, kidney, thyroid, and esophagus in men and women, testicular cancer in men, melanoma, and cancers of the brain and bladder in women and childhood cancer according to the National Cancer Institute. These same cancers can also be found in animals. Multiple myeloma for instance is a rare neoplasm found in certain animals, including cats. This rare form of cancer ravaged our beloved and loyal cat. Manual not Included: I Never Got the Last Chapter is the first book to document the true life story of a family's pet cat, who was afflicted with this type of cancer. It's not unusual to assume a family pet will be around for years and then quietly pass away from old age. the ideal situation would be to just pass away peacefully while they sleep. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen that way. Life goes along as usual—feeding them, playing with them, loving them, and watching them grow. Then one day they get sick, and the doctor mentions the word no one wants to hear, "Cancer!" Every year, new cases of multiple myeloma will present itself at a veterinary office with little or no information provided to the owner. This book will allow pet owners worldwide to understand what multiple myeloma is and how to treat it if their cat receives this diagnosis. Although this book depicts the life story of a cat, the disease is not species specific. Readers will find pictures depicting Dopey and his family's life over the last fifteen years. the many visuals in this book will help readers of all ages to bond with this fun and loving cat. the pictures of him will allow readers to feel his story and connect with him personally.

This richly illustrated book presents a selection of the rich and varied iconographic material from the Scandinavian Late Iron Age (AD 400-1050) depicting clothed human figures, from an archaeological textile and clothing perspective. The source material consists of five object categories: gold foils, gold bracteates, helmet plaques, jewelry, and textile tapestries and comprises over 1000 different images of male and female costumes which are then systematically examined in conjunction with our present knowledge of archaeological textiles. In particular, the study explores the question of whether the selected images complement the archaeological clothing sources, through a new analytical tool which enables us to compare and contrast the object categories in regard to material, function, chronology, context and interpretation. The tool is used to record and analyze the numerous details of the iconographic costumes, and to facilitate a clear and easy description. This deliberate use of explicit costume shapes enhances our interpretation and understanding of the Late Iron Age clothing tradition. Thus, the majority of the costumes depicted are identified in the Scandinavian archaeological textile record, demonstrating that the depictions are a reliable source of research for both iconographical costume and archaeological clothing. The book contributes with new information on social, regional and chronological differences in clothing traditions from ca. AD 400 to the Viking Age.

The attire of the feudal lords and ladies of old Japan, warriors, priest, courtesans, Edo-period dandies geisha, footmen, farmers— in fact, the whole array of Kabuki's colorful characters-is discussed in fascinating detail in this Japanese Kabuki book. From kimono and armor to undergarments, from wigs to foot gear, from swords to hair garments—no aspect of costume accessories is overlooked. Textiles and textile designs, in all their profusion of weaves, colors, and patterns, are carefully taken note of, and a number of important traditional designs are illustrate. Make-up and headdress varying formats of costume for specific roles, styles of tying the obi—all are expertly described. Of the numerous books in English dealing with the Kabuki theater of Japan, none so far has devoted itself exclusively to costume. Kabuki is compelling bringing about such art forms, yet it is the costumes that create the intrinsic, eye catching spectacle. Praise for Kabuki Costume: "A product of over fourteen years of meticulous study, Shaver's unique and authoritative analysis of the labyrinthine complexities of Kabuki costumery not only provides…a valuable reference work for scholar, but also an apt introduction for anyone seeking to understand the principles of Japanese visual arts and theatrical conventions."—Choice Reviews
