"There is without doubt a great need for a practical and theoretical framework through which supervisors, primarily, but also supervisees can negotiate the relationship of supervision." "This invaluable resource book gives a brief overview of the history of supervision and its importance in initial and ongoing counselling training - reviewing both the British and US literature - and brings together contemporary themes and debates within supervision." "The author presents his own linear model of supervision, connecting goals, functions and tasks, and presents and analyses the seven tasks of supervision. A model for the management of the supervisory process is then discussed, outlining a five-stage chronology of the steps through which a supervisory relationship travels. Importantly, the organizational dimension of supervision is studied in detail and a number of supervisory formats (individual, peer, group and team) are evaluated." "The concluding chapter on ethics is an attempt to offer a model of ethical decision-making applicable to both counselling and supervision. It reviews in some detail the various responsibilities of supervisors. An appendix includes the revised Code of Ethics and Practice for Supervisors from BAC."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved

Counselling Supervision In Organisations written by Sue Copeland and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-03 with Psychology categories.

Counselling supervision is an expanding area, as increasing numbers of counsellors enter the profession and require supervision on a regular basis. Counselling Supervision in Organisations seeks to provide a model of counselling supervision within organisations, enabling supervisors, counsellors and their line managers to work effectively within organisational cultures for the benefit of all parties in the working alliance. Drawing on her own research, Sue Copeland explores both counselling and supervision cultures and their fit with various organisational cultures. The dilemmas that often arise from a clash between differing cultural norms are discussed in relation to the supervisory process. From securing a supervisory position, contracting for the work, reporting back to the organisation, assessing the work and ending the relationship, through to an in-depth consideration of the supervisory work embedded in a good working relationship, her model provides a blueprint for the supervisory process. The model described in Counselling Supervision in Organisations brings together the cultures of counselling and supervision and their relation to organisational cultures. It will provide a unique resource for counsellors, trainee and professional counselling supervisors and their line managers.

`An excellent compilation..... Given the explosion in the demand for both counselling and supervision, this book should be required reading for all those putting a toe in these complex waters. However, I think it is also a salutary guide for those already practising as trainers and supervisors. I found the issues raised stimulated me to think again about my own practice and to profit from that exercise′ - Counselling, The Journal of The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy This accessible book explores the issues involved in both the training and supervision of counsellors and in the preparation of those who are to undertake supervisory and training roles. The number of training courses is growing and counsellors must undergo supervision if they are to be accredited by professional bodies. In this volume, leading trainers and supervisors from different counselling traditions discuss the responsibilities and the professional and practical issues involved, and a trainee and supervisee give an insider′s view of what it feels like to be in these positions. The closing chapter deals with the important issue of training for counsellor trainers and supervisors.

Supervision is a prerequisite for all counsellors, and for most psychotherapists, yet until recently it has been assumed that any experienced counsellor or therapist could become a supervisor without any special expertise. But the experience of those in supervision is sometimes of inadequate or even unhelpful work by their supervisors. At the same time supervision is receiving considerable attention as a discipline in its own right, with an expanding literature on the dynamics of the supervisory couple (or the supervisory triad, since the client is a central if absent presence); more attention is also being paid to the technical skills required of the supervisor. This book addresses those issues both from the perspective of the supervisee and the supervisor, suggesting what supervisees might expect from good supervision, as well as offering guidance to supervisors on how best to use to the full the opportunities offered by a therapeutic situation which has some similarities, but also some radical differences from counselling and therapy itself.

To find out more and to book your place go to www.cityminds.com ________________________________________ `It is a fairly well established clich[ac]e that while supervision is recognised as a crucial component of good practice in psychotherapy and counselling, there is correspondingly little written about it... [this book is] a good step in redressing the balance... It is a practical, didactic and generic view of how to do supervision... giving a fairly comprehensive account of 30 of the formal skills that all supervisors probably use whether consciously or not... The book discusses each of the skills, giving examples as well as practical suggestions as to how to approach difficult issues... directed principally at counsellors, it is a book to dip into when faced with a panic about a specific issue′ - Therapeutic Communities Supervision is a professional and ethical necessity for all counsellors, providing them with consultative and supportive aid while protecting clients from potential abuse - yet relatively little has been written on the subject. This volume aims to redress that balance. Encouraging, yet sensitive to the difficult issues that frequently arise in supervision, the book contains practical suggestions, plus useful appendices, to help practising and trainee supervisors develop and enhance the skills they need to be successful in their work. The authors cover such key areas as creating a supervisory alliance, fostering the supervisory relationship, the use of tape-recording, highlighting supervisees′ strengths and weaknesses, and protecting the client and counsellor.
