A moving, thought-provoking and uplifting story of a wonderful mother, daughter relationship. Gloria Hunniford's daughter, TV presenter Caron Keating, was 34 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The next seven years of Caron's life, and her family's, became a quest for recovery that ultimately took them across the world. They became experts in the illness and its treatment, both conventional and alternative. All the while Caron was living in the public eye and keeping her own, devastating secret. This is Gloria's account of Caron's life. It is about the difficult bond between mothers and daughters ... about what happens to a family when one of its members gets taken over by a disease. It's a celebration of an unbreakable mother - daughter relationship and how that relationship withstood the strain of Caron's illness. And above all it's a book to commemorate a spirited, magical woman. A woman who loved life and fought to hold onto it. 'It is outstanding from the beginning ... feels painfully truthful but is utterly absorbing. It does make you cry - endlessly' Daily Express 'We see Caron as a daughter, a sister, a wife, a friend and a mother - but most of all as a fighter. This is not a story of illness and death rather it's a beautiful, emotional celebration of an extraordinary life that sadly ended far too soon. A beautiful read' Daily Record

An astonishing collection of compelling and vivid wartime memories. As Canada’s tens of thousands of veterans of the Second World War increasingly fall victim to the ravages of time, their personal stories become more and more vital to our understanding of what happened in those pivotal years. In Rare Courage, twenty Canadian veterans candidly describe their experiences in their own words, combined with more than eighty photographs and artifacts from the Dominion Institute and the veterans’ personal collections. Rare Courage takes readers to the sinking of the Bismarck and to the bloody beaches of Normandy. It describes the poignant search of a Jewish nurse for survivors of the Holocaust and chilling tales of shot-down airmen on the run in occupied Europe. Many of the stories shed light on little-known aspects of the war: Did you know that almost all the pioneering radar officers on British warships were Canadians? Or that a Canadian major-league baseball star ended up a prisoner in Stalag Luft 13? This is not dry, academic history, but a book that breathes with vivid details. Rare Courage celebrates the heroism and remembers the horror of the Second World War.

“The Church opposes any unjust treatment of homosexual persons, insisting on their equal dignity before God and firmly correcting anyone who in any way ridicules homosexual persons. It is also the duty of the Church in every diocese to provide adequate pastoral programs to help homosexual men and women live the Gospel to the full.” Father John F. Harvey Founder of Courage For more than thirty years, Courage has been helping same-sex-attracted Catholic men and women to lead chaste lives. This book will relate not just the history of the apostolate but how and why it was founded. It will introduce readers to the numerous souls whose lives were changed by following the goals of Courage and who found peace, understanding, and joy in choosing a life of chastity. This book is an attempt to tell the story of Courage from the point of view of a member. Founded in 1980 in New York, Courage has grown into an international organization. Yet its very existence seems to defy the tide of the popular culture. In spite of pressure on all sides and even from inside the Church, Courage continues to stress the traditional teachings of the Church. While society’s attitudes toward sexuality have changed, the teachings of the Church have not. It is possible that of all the Church’s teachings, none has been more distorted and misunderstood than the teaching regarding human sexuality. Yet the Church could not be more clear: all of us, homosexual and heterosexual, are called to be chaste.

Courage achieves the American dream, when she was least ready for the problems and responsibilities that came with it. This book details her trials and tribulations. The book tells about her experiences as a Landlord, in a big city like New York City. The author writes about the process of buying and running a house with tenants, the problems associated with such tenants and the legal challenges along the way. In the book, the author writes about two fraudulent people who try to steal the house right from under her using the legal system. The book will help both current and future landlords avoid this pitfall. The book is also about the triumph of human courage. The heroine of the book, Courage, has the temerity to stand up to the fraudulent people whose main objective is to steal her house, her American dream. She also stands up against a might multi-national financial corporation collaborating (so it seems) with the two fraudulent people trying to steal her house. Though she looses money, personal items and her good credit in the process, she hangs in there because she believes in herself. She discovers that getting justice in this country means having lots of money to buy attorney's time. When some attorneys give her, very bad legal advice, the heroine of the book stands her ground. She fires them and takes matters into her own hands. The events in the book show that courage both as human or a virtue always wins.

The book contains stories from 19 veterans across Texas and is thoroughly engaging. It's an extremely quick read. The stories are tragic and at times humorous. It's told in an interview-style, so you feel the emotions that the veterans are experiencing as they relive their personal accounts. One of my favorite chapters is of the Gibesons, a couple from San Antonio, who met during the War and are still married today. What a love story!
