John H. Walton is a significant voice in Old Testament studies, who has influenced many scholars in this field as well as others. This volume is an acknowledgment from his students of Walton’s role as a teacher, scholar, and mentor. Each essay is offered by scholars (and former students) working in a range of fields—from Old and New Testament studies to archaeology and theology. They are offered as a testimony and tribute to Walton’s prolific career.”

Essays present a fascinating prose communication; well presented, each works out a consistent theme. The essays in this collection, created over a fifteen-year span, stand on their own, although several themes carry through--Jesus's lordship, the kingdom, the church, the faith; these constitute constants framed by the three Forms of Unity, that is, the original stuff of the Reformation. .embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }

The essays in this collection, as in the previous volume, run the gamut, from the very personal to the academic. From struggling with the three Forms of Unity and the Heidelberg Catechism, to finding troublesome Greek mythology in the Nicene Creed, and discovering discomfort in the book of Jonah, this book comes out for then and now. Other themes, too, function in this collection. On the basis of the examples given here, may this collection whet your appetite for these and more.

The proposed Anglican Covenant impinges not only upon the future of the Anglican Communion but upon global Christianity as well. Pro Communione: Theological Essays on the Anglican Covenant is the first volume that considers the completed text of the Covenant and its congruity with the Anglican tradition. Contributors across the Anglo-American world appraise the Covenant within a holistic framework defined by liturgical, historical, and ecumenical perspectives. These essays transcend current debates by illuminating abiding theological themes within Anglicanism. Creative and edifying, rigorous and hopeful, Pro Communione envisions a revival of the Anglican imagination within the context of a covenanted Anglican Communion. Contributors: Jeff Boldt, Neil Dhingra, Andrew Goddard, Benjamin M. Guyer, N. J. A. Humphrey, Nathan G. Jennings, Evan Kuehn, Edmund Newey, Matthew S. C. Olver, Ephraim Radner, and Christopher Wells

Christ And Covenant Theology written by Cornelis P. Venema and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Covenant theology categories.

"In the biblical drama of the living God's works in creation and redemption," writes Cornelis Venema, "no theme is more lustrous than that of God's gracious intention to enjoy communion with humans who bear his image and whose lives have been broken through sin." This collection of Venema's essays summarizes and defends a broad consensus view of the doctrine of the covenants in the history of Reformed theology and clarifies several areas of dispute. Venema argues that (1) the distinction between a pre-fall covenant of works and a post-fall covenant of grace is an integral feature of a biblical and confessionally Reformed understanding of the history of redemption; (2) the distinction between a pre-fall covenant of works and a post-fall covenant of grace is necessary to preserve the sheer graciousness of God's redemption in Jesus Christ; and (3) the doctrines of covenant and election are corollary doctrines, not opposed to each other, but mutually defining.

Paul S Message And Ministry In Covenant Perspective written by Scott J. Hafemann and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-01-22 with Religion categories.

The essays presented here represent over twenty-five years of thinking about the theology and life of the Apostle Paul who, as a "slave of Jesus Christ" (Rom 1:1), was a "servant of the new covenant" with a "ministry of the Spirit" (2 Cor 3:6, 8). Taking the questions raised by the history of scholarship since F. C. Baur as their starting point, Hafemann's exegetical studies focus on how Paul's self-understanding shaped his message, the motivations of his ministry, and his consequent call to suffer for the sake of his churches. Hafemann's work reveals that Paul's views of redemption, of his own redemptive mission, and of the life of the redeemed derived from his eschatological conviction that the purpose of the new covenant realities inaugurated by the Christ is to prepare for their promised consummation when Christ returns to judge the world.
