Left for Dead tells of a disaster of unknown origin and proportion that wipes out most modern technology. After the COVID-19 pandemic of 2019, each subsequent winter, brings about back-to-back Polar Vortices which carry subfreezing artic weather systems down across continental U.S. In 2021, the Deep South gets hit with the worst one to date receiving heavy snow storms common in the Dakotas. Rolling blackouts sweep the nation and food shortages create widespread panic. Then, as municipalities begin to adjust to what experts called the ‘new normal for southern winter weather’, and bring about peace, a dark threat waits in the wings ready to bring about a new crisis. Asher Latham is serving a life-sentence for murder in the state penitentiary when the power goes out and certain signs tell him that they’re facing more than a simple power outage. He believes an EMP event may have struck the U.S. and realizing the long term ramifications of such an event, he has no desire to die in prison. But, what can he do? After time off due to the weather, Bethany Johnson has just returned to Vanderbilt University to work on her law degree when a bad day turns into a nightmare. She finds herself alone facing a murderous mob of accusers. Associate Pastor Grant Foster and his loving wife finds themselves looking after a large group of their neighbors, employees of their RV dealership, and members of their church. Best-selling novelist Carrie Raymore sits at her desk working on her latest book when her computer bursts into flames, the short circuit spreads to her external memory source frying months of work. Then she notices a neighbors home on fire and rushes over to help. Follow along as these people face a crisis of epic proportions as they struggle to survive.

Dottoressa written by Susan Levenstein and has been published by Paul Dry Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-05-21 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

“Wise and witty.”―Publishers Weekly “A charming story well told.”―Kirkus Reviews “Smart, funny, charming . . . full of astute insights into the way Italy works.”―Alexander Stille “A wonderfully fun read.”―Dr. Robert Sapolsky "As funny as it is poignant. A must read for anyone who thinks they understand medicine, Italy, or humanity.”―Barbie Latza Nadeau After completing her medical training in New York, Susan Levenstein set off for a one year adventure in Rome. Forty years later, she is still practicing medicine in the Eternal City. In Dottoressa: An American Doctor in Rome Levenstein writes, with love and exasperation, about navigating her career through the renowned Italian tangle of brilliance and ineptitude, sexism and tolerance, rigidity and chaos. Part memoir―starting with her epic quest for an Italian medical license―and part portrait of Italy from a unique point of view, Dottoressa is packed with vignettes that illuminate the national differences in character, lifestyle, health, and health care between her two countries. Levenstein, who has been called “the wittiest internist on earth,” covers everything from hookup culture to neighborhood madmen, Italian hands-off medical training, bidets, the ironies of expatriation, and why Italians always pay their doctor’s bills.

The Truth Of Power Intellectual Affairs In The Clinton White House written by Benjamin R. Barber and has been published by W. W. Norton & Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-08-17 with Political Science categories.

Ideas and the presidency flirt with each other, but can they really get along? President Clinton had a romance with big ideas. He intently cultivated intellectuals, seducing them with his characteristic charm and with the promise of real influence on the political stage. Yet most often he disappointed the big thinkers whose advice he sought. Benjamin Barber was first invited to Camp David in 1994, along with other prominent members of the academic community, to participate in a "seminar" with President Clinton on the future of Democratic ideas and ideals. Afterwards, he became a steady informal adviser to the White House. For a politically committed professor like Barber, the opportunity was exhilarating—here was an opportunity to put ideas into action, to link ideas to power. The result was enlightening, if unexpected. The most unpredictable factor was the president himself: a man of astonishing intellectual gifts, a consummate listener and synthesizer of ideas, who nonetheless failed to present a stirring progressive vision or even to craft a memorable speech. With great perceptiveness, wit, and élan, Barber provides a startling meditation on truth and power—and the truth of power, which is the responsibility of the elected not to an idea but to the electorate. He identifies the fault lines that future progressive candidates must straddle if they are to win—and the gift they must have, if they are to be great, of calling forth the best in their fellow citizens. In the end, Barber give us a unique portrait of our compelling and maddening ex-president, and the hopes and disillusionments he represents.

What Do Economists Know written by Robert F Garnett Jr and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-01-04 with Business & Economics categories.

A provocatively rethink of the questions of what, how and for whom economics is produced. Academic economists in the twentieth century have presumed to monopolise economic knowledge, seeing themselves as the only legitimate producers and consumers of this highly specialized commodity. This has encouraged a narrow view of economics as little more than a private dialogue among professionally licensed knowers. This book recasts this narrow view.
