The development of special and general relativity has relied significantly on ideas of symmetry. Similarly, modern efforts to test these theories have often sought either violations or extensions of the symmetries seen, and symmetry is regularly used a tool in seeking new applications. In this Special Issue of symmetry, we explore some contemporary research related to symmetry in special and general relativity.

Proceedings Of The Xviii International Conference On Atomic Physics written by Hossein R. Sadeghpour and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Business & Economics categories.
This important proceedings volume highlights the major scientific achievement of the last decade in atomic physics, namely the creation of the gaseous Bose-Einstein condensate, which was featured prominently at the XVIII International Conference on Atomic Physics (ICAP2002). Two recipients of the 2001 Nobel Prize delivered lectures at the meeting. Among the topics discussed were novel processes leading to degenerate Fermi gases in atom traps, creation of cold molecules, condensates in optical lattices, atoms in intense fields, tests of fundamental symmetries, quantum control and information, time and frequency standards.

Cpt Invariance And The Spin Statistics Connection written by Jonathan Bain and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-08 with Science categories.
This book seeks to answer the question "What explains CPT invariance and the spin-statistics connection?" These properties play foundational roles in relativistic quantum field theories (RQFTs), are supported by high-precision experiments, and figure into explanations of a wide range of phenomena, from antimatter, to the periodic table of the elements, to superconductors and superfluids. They can be derived in RQFTs by means of the famous CPT and Spin-Statistics theorems; but, the author argues, these theorems cannot be said to explain these properties, at least under standard philosophical accounts of scientific explanation. This is because there are multiple, in some cases incompatible, ways of deriving these theorems, and, secondly, because the theorems fail for the types of theories that underwrite the empirical evidence: non-relativistic quantum theories, and realistic interacting RQFTs. The goal of this book is to work towards an understanding of CPT invariance and the spin-statistics connection by first providing an analysis of the necessary and sufficient conditions for these properties, and second by advocating a particular account of explanation appropriate for this context.

The Tenth Marcel Grossmann Meeting written by M. Novello and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Science categories.
The Marcel Grossmann meetings were conceived to promote theoretical understanding in the fields of physics, mathematics, astronomy and astrophysics and to direct future technological, observational, and experimental efforts. They review recent developments in gravitation and general relativity, with major emphasis on mathematical foundations and physical predictions. Their main objective is to bring together scientists from diverse backgrounds and their range of topics is broad, from more abstract classical theory and quantum gravity and strings to more concrete relativistic astrophysics observations and modeling. This Tenth Marcel Grossmann Meeting was organized by an international committee composed of D. Blair, Y. Choquet-Bruhat, D. Christodoulou, T. Damour, J. Ehlers, F. Everitt, Fang Li Zhi, S. Hawking, Y. Ne'eman, R. Ruffini (chair), H. Sato, R. Sunyaev, and S. Weinberg and backed by an international coordinating committee of about 135 members from scientific institutions representing 54 countries. The scientific program included 29 morning plenary talks during 6 days, and 57 parallel sessions over five afternoons, during which roughly 500 papers were presented. These three volumes of the proceedings of MG10 give a broad view of all aspects of gravitation, from mathematical issues to recent observations and experiments

Primordial Black Holes written by Christian Byrnes and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-04-30 with Science categories.
Primordial black holes (PBHs) were proposed more than 50 years ago as black holes possibly formed across a vast mass range in the early universe. They represent a unique probe to access the primordial universe and cosmological inflation. Furthermore, in certain mass ranges, they could comprise the entirety of the dark matter, seed supermassive black holes at high redshift, be responsible for some gravitational-wave events detected so far, and be novel gravitational-wave sources detectable with future instruments. However, detecting PBHs has proved to be extremely challenging and extensive research focused on setting a variety of constraints on the fraction of dark matter composed by these objects. This book highlights an up-to-date, comprehensive overview on this subject, including pedagogical details on the PBH formation scenarios, cosmological evolution, astrophysical implications, connections with gravitational-wave astronomy, and critical discussion of the latest and future constraints. At variance with all existing reviews on this subject, this book addresses graduate students and researchers not necessarily familiar with all areas of the topic, providing details on important key results rather than collecting and reviewing the latest literature. The topic is naturally interdisciplinary and connects areas as diverse as cosmology, particle physics, gravitational-wave astronomy, and numerical simulations. To reflect this diversity, the book includes 25 contributions from key researchers working in these different areas. It provides a unique reference both to approach the topic for the first time and to learn a specific specialized sub-area.

Tests Of Lorentz Invariance With An Optical Ring Cavity written by Yuta Michimura and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-03-20 with Science categories.
This thesis describes one of the most precise experimental tests of Lorentz symmetry in electrodynamics by light-speed anisotropy measurement with an asymmetric optical ring cavity. The author aims to answer the fundamental, hypothetical debate on Lorentz symmetry in the Universe. He concludes that the symmetry is protected within an error of 10-15, which means providing one of the most stringent upper limits on the violation of the Lorentz symmetry in the framework of the Standard Model Extension. It introduces the following three keys which play an important role in achieving high-precision measurement: (1) a high-index element (silicon) interpolated into part of the light paths in the optical ring cavity, which improves sensitivity to the violation of the Lorentz symmetry, (2) double-pass configuration of the interferometer, which suppresses environmental noises, and (3) continuous data acquisition by rotating the optical ring cavity, which makes it possible to search for higher-order violations of Lorentz symmetry. In addition to those well-described keys, a comprehensive summary from theoretical formulations to experimental design details, data acquisition, and data analysis helps the reader follow up the experiments precisely.
