Crafting Comparison Papers written by Marcia S. Freeman and has been published by Maupin House Publishing, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Education categories.

Since comparison papers require students to describe both similarities and differences, they are often used as assessment tools in just about every subject. For this reason alone, developing writers should be taught how to craft effective comparison papers. But teaching your students how to compose comparison papers also has a larger impact on their education--it prepares them to think more analytically, perform better in complex testing situations, and compare texts. In Crafting Comparison Papers, Marcia S. Freeman fully explains the four instructional steps that develop comparison skills: understanding the concept of attributes; organizing attributes for comparison; building clear, coherent comparative paragraphs; and assembling effective comparison papers. She includes lessons with specific Target Skills(TM) to support your students' progress, and she suggests timelines that will help you plan your curriculum. Throughout, Freeman's comprehensive approach and clear instructions make this book a unique and valuable resource for any teacher of developing writers.

Victorian Paper Art And Craft written by Deborah Lutz and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-09-22 with Literary Criticism categories.

This book shows how authors in nineteenth-century Britain used the materials of writing (and of reading, drawing, and handicraft) for inspiration and creative composition. In doing so, it reshapes the sensory history of working on and with paper. These activities were many and varied: Charlotte Brontë composed poems and doodled in the margins of school books, George Eliot recorded writing ideas on her blotter, Elizabeth Barrett Browning sewed paper to paper to edit her poems, and Jane Austen employed straight pins to "cut and paste." Albums provided a playful space to collect and to produce text-and-collage gifts for friends, circumventing print culture for a more intimate book making, as Elizabeth Gaskell and Anna Atkins knew. Notebooks and commonplace books were vital to Eliot, Michael Field, and Emily Brontë as part of a writing process. Writers experimented with crafts and needlework to compose text without paper and ink, most notably in the case of samplers. What writing and drawing happened on—including bibles, sewing patterns, and walls—mattered, as related to, and generative of, the themes of the work. This expansive field of meanings that creativity with textual (and material) things could have was common to the Victorians, but the writers explored here were extravagant even among their self-reflexive contemporaries in their undoing, remaking, miniaturizing, encrypting, reusing, and transforming. The edge of the page, the width of the margin, the covers of the book, were limiting factors, but also provocations to push on further, be radical.

Productivity And Performance In The Paper Industry written by Gary Bryan Magee and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-03-27 with Business & Economics categories.

This pioneering 1997 study examines the economic development of the British paper industry between 1860 and 1914 - an era in which it is often claimed that the origins of Britain's relative economic decline are first witnessed. For paper-making, this was also a period in which an array of important new forces, including inter alia the development of new raw materials and the move to ever larger scales of production, came on the scene. Gary Bryan Magee looks at the effect of these changes and assesses how effectively the industry coped with the new pressures, drawing upon an extensive range of quantitative and archival sources from Britain, America, and other countries. Along the way, Dr Magee addresses issues central to the understanding of industrial competitiveness, such as technological change, entrepreneurship, productivity, trade policy, and industrial relations.
