These are the memoirs of Dr. David R. Glover's professional career in pharmaceutical medicine. His formative school and undergraduate years led to a unique and remarkable journey through medicine and medicines. Like many medical careers there were a number of twists and turns which encompassed clinical and academic medicine, clinical research and drug development. He touched upon or was deeply involved with most types of medicines from simple pills and potions through to stem cells. He has recalled many anecdotes relating to the drugs, the people and the events that enriched his career and included some rarely seen illustrations of old medicines and personal photographs. This is not an in-depth pharmacological treatise but it is sufficiently detailed where merited, particularly regarding the infamous "clinical trial that went wrong" in 2006. In his Vie D’or the reader will find that he enjoyed more than his fifteen minutes of fame.

The research in Physics Education has to do with the search of solutions to the complex problem of how to improve the learning and teaching of physics. The complexity of the problem lies in the different fields of knowledge that need to be considered in the research. In fact, besides the disciplinary knowledge in physics (which must be considered from the conceptual, the historical, and the epistemological framework), one has to take into account some basic knowledge in the context of psychology and the cognitive sciences (for the general and contextual aspects of learning) and some basic knowledge in education and comunication (for what concerns teaching skills and strategies). Looking back at the historical development of the research one may recognize that the complexity of the endeavour was not clear at first but became clear in its development, which shifted the focus of the research in the course of time from physics to learning to teaching. We may say that the research started, more than 30 years ago, with a focus on disciplinary knowledge. Physicists in different parts of the western world, after research work in some field of physics, decided to concentrate on the didactical comunication of physical knowledge.

The Impact Of Spending Cuts On Science And Scientific Research written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Science and Technology Committee and has been published by The Stationery Office this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-03-25 with Political Science categories.

The pressure to be seen to be making cuts across the public sector is threatening to undermine both the Government's good record on investment in science and the economic recovery. Whilst the contribution of a strong domestic science base is widely acknowledged, methodological problems with quantifying its precise value to the economy mean that it is in danger of losing out in Whitehall negotiations. Scientists are under increasing pressure to demonstrate the impact of their work and there is concern that areas without immediate technology applications are being undervalued. The Committee believes the Government faced a strategic choice: invest in areas with the greatest potential to influence and improve other areas of spending, or make cuts of little significance now, but that will have a devastating effect upon British science and the economy in the years to come.

It All Counts written by Carol Vorderman and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-09-16 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Carol Vorderman is everywoman: a single working mother, a businesswoman and a devoted daughter. And now, for the first time, she has decided to tell it like it is. Since 1982, Carol was much loved as co-presenter of Countdown with Richard Whiteley. Joining the show at the age of twenty-one after her mother secretly posted off an application, she became the first woman to appear on Channel Four. Vorderman and Whiteley went on to form one of the most endearing partnerships in British TV history. His death in 2005 devastated Carol but she continued to present Countdown until July 2008, when, after twenty-six unbroken years with the show, it was announced that she was stepping down. Carol’s life has been a rollercoaster. The youngest of three children, she was just three weeks old when her parents separated. Her father refused to acknowledge Carol, leaving her mother to hold down multiple jobs as the family’s only provider. There was a stint in the circus; there have been two marriages; she has juggled a career with two children, whom she adores; she is a detox advocate and has hosted more shows than any other female presenter, including Tomorrow’s World, Better Homes, Pride of Britain and, of course, Countdown. In IT ALL COUNTS, Carol tells the engrossing story of her life from an early age through to today - the personal struggles, the good times, the sad times, and lifts the lid on what really goes on behind the scenes in a TV studio and the full story behind her shocking Countdown departure.
