De gezins–creatieve–therapie die in dit boek wordt beschreven, is gericht op gedragsverandering van de gezinsleden in het hier en nu. De methode is gebaseerd op de volgende grondbeginselen: een creatieve therapie beeldend vormen, gezinstherapie, ouderbegeleiding en leertheorieën met betrekking tot communicatie en emancipatie.Wanneer ouders in hun oudertaken worden ondersteund, kan het gezin in beweging komen op een manier die vanaf het begin door de ouders zelf wordt gedragen. Al doende leren de ouders een beeldende activiteit te plannen en leiding te geven aan hun kinderen bij het uitvoeren van die activiteit. Het doel van de ondersteuning is dat zij deze handelwijze ook in de dagelijkse omgang met elkaar gaan hanteren. Deze doelstelling leidt tot een therapiemodel dat in tien bijeenkomsten kan worden uitgevoerd.De gezins–creatieve–therapie wordt in principe met het kerngezin uitgevoerd. Sleutelbegrippen zijn: succeservaringen, positieve bevestiging, omgaan met beeldende (productie)problemen, scheiden van de subsystemen van ouders en kinderen, het herstel van de hiërarchie van de ouder ten opzichte van de kinderen en aandacht voor de leefomgeving van het gezin.

Stipulation of a present actual position of Art Therapy, however, inevitably leads to further thoughts about ongoing development. De interactieve methode die in dit boek wordt beschreven is ontstaan vanuit het werken in de praktijk van creatieve therapie met groepen. De interactieve methode als benaming is een samenvoeging van de woorden 'interactie' en 'actief'. Praktijkvoorbeelden verhelderen de tekst. Het boek is bedoeld voor mensen die als creatief therapeut werkzaam zijn in de therapeutische en agogische sector. De beschreven methode is bruikbaar voor open en gesloten groepen, heterogene en homogene groepen. Het kan toegepast worden bij volwassenen en kinderen, zowel in langdurende als kortdurende behandelingen en in verschillende settings.
