La obra es resultado de un proceso investigativo realizado en la UPTC, Facultad Seccional Duitama, se centró en indagar las creencias que tienen estudiantes y profesores frente a la resolución de problemas en matemáticas. Este es un tema que afecta e impacta el desempeño en la actividad matemática en estudiantes de cualquier carrera de Educación Superior. Presenta en sus tres capítulos una detallada descripción del problema, articulado con antecedentes teóricos e investigativos que lo soportan; precisa metodológicamente el diseño y análisis de resultados de dos experiencias alrededor de las creencias de estudiantes y profesores de un primer semestre de las carreras de pregrado de la Facultad. Está escrito por una estudiante que conforma el semillero de investigación EDUMAES; dos profesores en ejercicio de la Educación Básica y Media; y una maestra formadora de profesores de matemáticas, quienes bajo un lenguaje sencillo plasman algunas consideraciones, reflexiones y preguntas abiertas, que esperan trasciendan a profesores en formación y en ejercicio.

Este libro presenta un análisis de las concepciones de profesores de matemáticas (de Secundaria y Universidad) y sus modos de enfrentarse a problemas matemáticos. The book presents Mandler's theory of emotion and explores its implications for the learning and teaching of mathematical problem solving. Also, leading researchers from mathematics, education, and psychology report how they have integrated affect into their own cognitive research. The studies focus on metacognitive processes, aesthetic influences on expert problem solvers, teacher decision-making, technology and teaching problem solving, and beliefs about mathematics.
