Crises On Cosmos written by M. D. Theo Addo and has been published by WestBow Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-20 with Religion categories.

In Crises on Cosmos, Dr. Theo Addo emphasizes a common theme: most people who are discounted by society as no good are simply individuals or populations who have not been exposed to valuable knowledge, or have failed by their own doing to keep focused and capitalize on their opportunities. The book examines the value of knowledge and asserts that knowledge is so priceless that without it life itself is unsustainable. It further describes how certain longstanding societal practices deemed as norms tend to disenfranchise huge sectors of populations based on race and poverty. Dr. Addo brings a different perspective to our many crises and affirms that the repercussions of our wrong decisions, teachings, and policies, and sometimes our denial of obvious inferences and truths hardly ever favor us. Those repercussions often live on to fight another day in completely different and more militant forms. Yet if we are able to muster hope we can overcome adversity.

When Crisis Becomes the Norm: What Can We Do to Demand Change? Crisis dominates the present historical moment. The economy is in crisis, politics in both its past and present forms is in crisis and our own individual lives are in crisis, made vulnerable by the fluctuations of the labor market and by the undoing of social and political ties we inherited from modernity. Yet, traditional views of crises as just temporary setbacks do not seem to hold any longer; this crisis seems permanent, with no way out and no alternatives on the horizon. Reconstructing a political genealogy of the term from the Greek world to today's neoliberalism, this book demonstrates that crisis, understood as a "choice" between revolution and conservation, is a peculiarity of the modern era that does not apply to the present day. However, since its origin, the trope of crisis has proven to be one of the most effective instruments of social discipline and administration. The analytical trajectory followed by this book - which spans from Plato to Hayek, from the juridical and medical science of antiquity to the current technocracy, passing through the "weapons of criticism" of Marx and Gramsci - finally identifies, following Benjamin and Foucault, precariousness as the "form of life" that characterizes crisis understood as an art of government. But we still need to answer the question: "How can we recreate the possibility of political alternatives?"

This collection of poetry and ‘psychoetry’ explores themes of anti-authoritarianism, haunted love, and mental health through an intense, passionate personal lens. With hints of philosophy and touches of sarcasm, the writing style varies dramatically between different poetic voices – echoes of the differing ‘alters’ within the author’s trauma-induced dissociative identity disorder system. You’ll discover poems penned in radically distinct styles, evoking the complex emotional landscape of living with C-PTSD, ADHD, chronic pain, and childhood trauma. The works dive deep into sexuality, love, spirituality, psychosis, neurodivergence, domestic violence and anarchic political perspectives. Raw, simple yet profound words excavate the darkest corners of a fragmented self, having unflinching conversations between selves, crying out for self-help and trauma recovery.

Probable Impossibilities written by Alan Lightman and has been published by Vintage this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-04-19 with Science categories.

The acclaimed author of Einstein’s Dreams tackles "big questions like the origin of the universe and the nature of consciousness ... in an entertaining and easily digestible way” (Wall Street Journal) with a collection of meditative essays on the possibilities—and impossibilities—of nothingness and infinity, and how our place in the cosmos falls somewhere in between. Can space be divided into smaller and smaller units, ad infinitum? Does space extend to larger and larger regions, on and on to infinity? Is consciousness reducible to the material brain and its neurons? What was the origin of life, and can biologists create life from scratch in the lab? Physicist and novelist Alan Lightman, whom The Washington Post has called “the poet laureate of science writers,” explores these questions and more—from the anatomy of a smile to the capriciousness of memory to the specialness of life in the universe to what came before the Big Bang. Probable Impossibilities is a deeply engaged consideration of what we know of the universe, of life and the mind, and of things vastly larger and smaller than ourselves.

"A landmark achievement that will no doubt be cited again and again for years to come. It is a thoroughly-researched and authoritative work."--Allen J. Christenson, author of Art and Society in a Highland Maya Community "While this book explains what brought about the Maya uprisings in Chiapas and Guatemala and answers questions about the role of the Catholic Church in the development of the uprisings, the heart of the book is about the Mayan quest to live with dignity as Maya in the modern world."--Christine Gudorf, author of Catholic Social Teaching on Liberation Themes In his most recent book, The Maya and Catholicism: An Encounter of Worldviews, John Early examined the relationship between the Maya and the Catholic Church from the sixteenth century through the colonial and early national periods. In Maya and Catholic Cultures in Crisis, he returns to delve into the changing worldviews of these two groups in the second half of the twentieth century--a period of great turmoil for both. Drawing on his personal experiences as a graduate student, a Roman Catholic priest in the region and his extensive archival research, Early constructs detailed case histories of the Maya uprisings against the governments of Guatemala and Mexico, exploring Liberation Catholicism’s integral role in these rebellions as well as in the evolutions of Maya and Catholic theologies. His meticulous and insightful study is indispensable to understanding Maya politics, society, and religion in the late twentieth century.
