This report examines the role of rare earth metals and other materials in the clean energy economy. It was prepared by the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) based on data collected and research performed during 2010. In the report, DoE describes plans to: (1) develop its first integrated research agenda addressing critical materials, building on three technical workshops convened by the DoE during November and December 2010; (2) strengthen its capacity for information-gathering on this topic; and (3) work closely with international partners, including Japan and Europe, to reduce vulnerability to supply disruptions and address critical material needs. Charts and tables. This is a print on demand report.

Ecodesign And Sustainability Ii written by Yusuke Kishita and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-10 with Science categories.

This book highlights cutting-edge ecodesign research, covering product and service design, smart manufacturing, and social perspectives in ecodesign. Featuring selected papers presented at EcoDesign 2019: 11th International Symposium on Environmentally Conscious Design and Inverse Manufacturing, it also includes diverse, interdisciplinary approaches to foster ecodesign research and activities. In the context of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it addresses the need for the manufacturing industry to design innovations for sustainable value creation, taking into account technological developments, legislation, and consumer lifestyles. Further, the book discusses the concept of circular economy, which originated in Europe and aims to increase resource efficiency by shifting away from the linear economy. Focusing on product life cycle design and management, smart manufacturing, circular economy, and business strategies, and providing useful approaches and solutions to these emerging concepts, this book is intended for both researchers and practitioners working in the broad field of ecodesign and sustainability.

Fdi Msmes Digitalization And Green Industrialization written by Nagesh Kumar and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-03-02 with Business & Economics categories.

This book presents fresh research on how Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), patterns of clustering, digitalization and innovation policies, interact and influence India’s industrialisation and its greening or sustainability. As India seeks to accelerate its process of industrialization especially focusing on the manufacturing sector, different interactions between agents of industrialization need to be understood better through evidence-based research. The volume through its 17 original contributions, focuses on three broad interrelated themes: FDI, export performance, innovation and environmental sustainability; growth, competitiveness and spatial distribution of MSMEs concerning access to finance, digitalisation and sustainability; and, green technology, circular economy and challenges towards clean transition and green industrialization. Research presented in this book does not see industrialization as an isolated process from globalization and appreciates the need to act upon specific impacts of foreign trade and investments. With a focused and futuristic approach towards industrialisation in India, it provides rigorous evidence-based treatment of complex interactions using secondary and primary sources of data deploying appropriate analytical techniques. In light of empirical findings, each chapter comes up with policy lessons for industrial strategy. Shedding new light and evidence, this book makes an important contribution by helping to generate a better understanding of the process of green industrialization and how it can be fostered to create inclusive and sustainable prosperity. It will be an invaluable resource for policymakers, analysts, researchers and students of industrial and environmental economics.

Urban Energy And Climate Prospects For A Sustainable Transition written by Peter Marcotullio and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-06-28 with Science categories.

With the continuous migration of people towards metropolitan areas in search of employment, the demands for core services and energy, coupled with an increasing awareness of the impact of climate change, have placed the management and planning of global urban energy under a lot of pressure. Trends toward urban energy service transformations that offer greater affordability, reliability, efficiency and adaptability provide hope for a global sustainable future. At the same time, there are also limits to these transitions, as well as risks involved. For example, on one end of the spectrum, our urban energy future includes land use sprawl, high fossil fuel use, pollution, and unhealthy urban conditions. On the other side of this transition spectrum is more energy choices, and healthier, more livable cities, along with less energy use and fewer greenhouse gas emissions. What the future might hold for transforming the world's cities depends upon an understanding of the risks of current trajectories and the opportunities for and limitations to developing sustainable urban energy systems. This edited volume brings together leading experts on the prospects and challenges of urban energy innovation and on related-economic, social and environmental sustainability transitions. The focus of the volume is on multidisciplinary reviews, research informing technologies and policies for sustainability, and analytical insights addressing rapid urbanization and changes across a diverse typology of global cities. The volume will include an overview of the current state of urban energy systems. It will also document and evaluate urban energy prospects for a sustainable, resilient future.

Wind Water And Fire The Other Renewable Energy Resources written by Gerard M Crawley and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-25 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This volume focuses on a few renewable energy sources, viz. wind energy plus energy from water movement and natural temperature differences that in principle could provide enormous energy resources. Energy from wind has been a rapidly growing source of energy as wind turbines have grown in size and especially as wind turbines have moved offshore. Hydroelectric dams have continued to be used as energy sources particularly in developing countries. Other energy sources using water, including waves and tidal sources, are also discussed in this volume. Finally, the volume discusses differences between deep and surface ocean temperatures plus the extraction of energy from the earth's extremely large energy resource of magma deep below the surface. These latter two energy resources in particular require further development and the current book describes the latest advances coupled with pointing possible paths forward.
