Mihailescu, Ziarul de duminica, 14 aprilie 2006 Dumitru Popescu (n. 18 aprilie 1928, la Turnu Magurele). Prozator, poet si eseist. Licentiat in stiinte economice in anul 1951. Intra in presa in anul 1950, ca redactor la Contemporanul. In 1956 urmeaza scoala Superioara de Partid „A. Jdanov“ de perfectionare a ziaristilor. Este redactor-sef al cotidianului Scinteia Tineretului (1956–1960), director general la Agerpres (1960–1962), adjunct al ministrulului Culturii (1962–1965), redactor-sef al ziarului Scinteia (1965–1968), presedinte al Consiliului Culturii si Educatiei Socialiste (1971–1976) presedinte al Consiliului National al Radioteleviziunii (1969–1971; 1976–1981). Din 1981 pana la caderea regimului comunist, rector la Academia „Stefan Gheorghiu“. A ocupat urmatoarele functii politice: membru al Biroului CC al UTM (1956–1960); membru CC al PCR (1965–1989); membru CPEx (1969–1989); secretar CC al PCR (1968–1981); deputat de Banat, Arad, Alba, Mures si Iasi (1965–1989). Implicat, dupa 1989, in procesul CPEx, a fost condamnat, achitat si iarasi condamnat, beneficiind in cele din urma de gratierea prezidentiala. In toti anii ulteriori n-a mai participat sub nicio forma la viata politica, dedicandu-se in exclusivitate scrisului. Debuteaza cu versuri si proza in Teleormanul liber, in 1949. Inainte de 1989 au aparut: • volume de publicistica: Impresii de calator (1962), Drumuri europene (1965); • eseistica: Biletul la control! (1968), Iesirea din labirint (1973); • poezie: Pentru cel ales (1968), Un om in Agora (1972), Gustul simburelui (1974), Raza de cobalt (1979), Insomnia dragonului (1989); • romane: trilogia Pumnul si palma (O dimineata inselatoare — 1980, Ochiul ciclonului – 1981, Marsul cariatidelor — 1982), Muzeul de ceara (1984), Vitralii incolore 1985, Cenusa din ornic (1988). In intervalul scurs de la caderea regimului comunist publica mai multe carti: • memorialistica: Timpul lepros — jurnalul unui detinut politic postdecembrist (1992, reeditat in 2004 cu sprijinul Ministerului Culturii si Cultelor), Am fost si cioplitor de himere (1993), Elefantii de portelan (1996), Cronos autodevorandu-se. Memorii vol. I–VI (Curtea Veche, 2005–2007); • eseistica: Eclipsa in Cetatea Soarelui (1994), Spatiile dintre negru si alb (2012), Diformitatea liniilor in portret (2012); • poezie: Ieslea minotaurului, continand versuri scrise in inchisoare (1993); • romane: Focul de paie (1999), Pasajul (2002), Omul zapezilor (2003), Atelierul de vara (2009), Candva dupa izgonirea din Paradis (2010), Artemis sau uzurparea sentimentului (2013).
