This book focuses on the dialectics between spatio-organisational gaps and local contexts that characterise cross-border investments. "Interspatial" investments – be it mergers & acquisitions (M&A) or greenfield investments – are usually characterised by what is referred to as "otherness", i.e. organisational and cultural distances of the firms involved in relation to their regional contexts. At the same time, economic, political and socio-cultural linkages are decisive for attracting cross-border investments to regions and for providing firms with conditions supportive of their market success. As a consequence of being locked into complex structures of proximities, cross-border investments are situated in contested terrain. This terrain triggers learning processes in both regional actors and investors, which can result in the convergence of mindsets and organisational issues. This book is unique in that it combines interspace (defined as the distance between the new owner and the cross-border venture), place (the target region), interpretation (perception and understanding of the investment by the actors involved) and context (institutions, actor networks and interaction), thus offering better understanding of recent processes of globalisation. Crossing disciplinary boundaries by integrating economic geography and management studies, the volume adopts an innovative and spatially informed perspective on foreign direct investments (FDI). This perspective will be of great value to scholars, students and practitioners. Following the Asian financial crisis, the development of local currency bond markets in each of the APEC economies as well as regional bond markets has received the highest priority among financial market policy-makers. Bond markets are considered as an alternative vehicle for domestic savings mobilization and also as a critical means of mitigating the dual mismatch problems of currency and maturity. However, tangible achievements have yet to materialize. The appeal of Asian bonds as evidenced by cross-border investments is dismally insignificant. Given the limited level of market activities associated with foreign investment in Asian bonds and with the supply of local currency or foreign currency denominated bonds issued by foreign borrowers in Asia, this study is designed to identify the types of impediments to cross-border investment in Asian bonds and to propose policy recommendations.

As cross border investment flow has grown significantly in the recent years, especially after 2008-2009 global financial crisis where liquidities started to flood the market which made global-seeking opportunities beyond border becomes growingly essential, it remains important for one to uncover the current international investment trend. Home bias phenomena and country's income classification has strongly been responsible to movement in international investment trend and therefore becomes the strongest emphasize used in this paper. Specifically, this paper attempts to revisit current literatures and tries to use the existing literature to examine whether the current trend in investors' domestic and foreign holding across the country groups has expressed optimum principle and if the principle can be applied in nowadays condition. Using equity market as sample, this paper finds the literature can explain what has been behind investors decision in diversifying internationally by dividing the factors into four broad categories (fundamental aspect, behavioural anomaly, governance or institutional constraints, and liquidity premia). On the optimisation principle side, literature shows that there lies positive but diminishing gap in actual and optimum domestic holding both in high and middle income countries, justified by return (equity index) movement and trade cost. This result, however, strongly needs to be improved as it has poor relevance with current condition.
