Crow Christianity speaks in many voices, and in the pages of Crow Jesus, these voices tell a complex story of Christian faith and Native tradition combining and reshaping each other to create a new and richly varied religious identity. In this collection of narratives, fifteen members of the Apsáalooke (Crow) Nation in southeastern Montana and three non-Native missionaries to the reservation describe how Christianity has shaped their lives, their families, and their community through the years. Among the speakers are elders and young people, women and men, pastors and laypeople, devout traditionalists and skeptics of the indigenous cultural way. Taken together, the narratives reveal the startling variety and sharp contradictions that exist in Native Christian devotion among Crows today, from Pentecostal Peyotists to Sun-Dancing Catholics to tongues-speaking Baptists in the sweat lodge. Editor Mark Clatterbuck also offers a historical overview of Christianity’s arrival, growth, and ongoing influence in Crow Country, with special attention to Christianity’s relationship to traditional ceremonies and indigenous ways of seeing the world. In Crow Jesus, Clatterbuck explores contemporary Native Christianity by listening as indigenous voices narrate their own stories on their own terms. His collection tells the larger story of a tribe that has adopted Christian beliefs and practices in such a way that simple, unqualified designations of religious belonging—whether “Christian” or “Sun Dancer” or “Peyotist”—are seldom, if ever, adequate.

Before the Cock Crows is a prophetic look into the spiritual eyes of the bride of Christ in her slow decline into apostasy. In her naiveté, God’s beloved boldly boasts how she will never forsake the Lord. Yet her reflection in the mirror at this time bears a striking resemblance to the apostle Peter in the precise moments prior to his denying our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, not once, but on three separate occasions. This book is biblical in nature with a solid backbone of scriptures to back up and support the heavy weight of such critical subject matter as what will be the role of the Holy Spirit of God as compared to Christian believers during the time of the rule of the Antichrist; an explanation of what the mark on the forehead of God’s sheep is; God’s holy temples present, past, and future; how to spiritually eat the word of God; why a solo and intimate walk with God is so imperative in these latter days; spiritual transformation and renewal; and lastly, how all of these topics tie into the upcoming apostasy predicted by Jesus Christ so very long ago. Indeed, the cock will crow for the Christian Church, just as it crowed for Peter so very long ago. Although there have been many books published on the subject of apostasy throughout the years, Before the Cock Crows not only forewarns against and prepares its readers for the upcoming apostasy, but also teaches them how to develop a deep and intimate relationship with God along the way. This book is meant to reach a broad Christian audience, but more importantly this book was meant for such a time as this.

At close of the Jesus ministry a battle for heart and mind ensued between new established churches and the mystic Jesus followers. This historical novel, "And the Cock Crows", records a struggle that for nearly two thousand years has laid dormant, hidden deep and unnoticed inside the New Testament canon. At Passover supper Jesus and his disciples Peter, John, and the others, have convened for an annual traditional celebration in Jerusalem, but soon the disciples find their world shattered by unexpected events spiraling uncontrollably into a monumental crisis that astonishingly becomes the establishment church's pathway to salvation. But it is not the Master's message; a false message is seeded. And no one is in position to correct it. Enters Paul of Tarsus, an orthodox Jew and Roman citizen who takes the reins of the broken Jesus ministry from afar, deep in the Roman Empire and distant from Jerusalem. He tells of a way to eternal life that the Master never said and proclaims a wrong message as he builds new churches throughout the Roman Empire. Yet the Jews, to whom Jesus had ministered, reject Paul's message. So, Paul changes his mission, bringing his Christian message to non-Jews, and makes numerous journeys through the vast Roman Empire, evangelizing his message of salvation to a Pagan population, and they convert in flocks to his new religion. But Peter and the other disciples of Jesus, and most other Jews, fanatically oppose Paul, and drive him out of their cities. This differing take on the historical Jesus is a probable construction, not fantasy or fiction. Using Paul's own words in his fourteen preserved New Testament letters and following the biblical book, Acts of the Apostles, an incredible version of Jesus' message is revealed, contrary to the Church version, unveiling a far more powerful and elevated teaching of eternal life told through the lips of the Master, Jesus. This easy to read novel, both entertains and informs, and most importantly reveals the Master's true teaching for an era that is today ready for the hard kernel of truth.

The God Who Believes written by Christian D. Kettler and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-09-01 with Religion categories.

How does one deal with doubt? Are faith and doubt irreconcilable? Does one's understanding of God affect the answers to these questions? Christian Kettler investigates these questions from a christological perspective, drawing implications from the Scottish theologian T. F. Torrance and his doctrine of "the vicarious humanity of Christ." If we take the humanity of Christ seriously, should we not speak of the faith of Jesus as a vicarious faith, believing for us and in our place when it is difficult if not impossible to believe? How Christians know God ("Jesus Knows God for Us and in Our Place"), who God is ("Who is the God Whom Jesus Knows?"), and how to believe in God in a world of suffering and evil ("Providence, Evil, Suffering, and the God Who Believes") receive new insight in light of this christological exploration. Wendell Berry's poignant novel of a humble country barber, 'Jayber Crow,' adds an incarnational context to a discussion with important pastoral and existential dimensions. In the vicarious faith of Christ we are not left, as James Torrance cautions us, to be thrown back upon ourselves, but called to participate by the Spirit in the faith of Jesus.
