This book is about surviving in the world some of the certain experiences I went through in life. It was a fight between good and evil; it is a real life story. Some people in life follow the footsteps of the devil some follow the footsteps of god. There were no mercy of the wrongdoers; there were physical and spiritual fight in this world. It explains about the evil things people did to me. They used and taken my kindness as weakness and left me. I did good to which some people did not deserve. What kept me going is knowing that there is a creator of this world, and one day there would be a judgement day. There is heaven after the people pass the test in this world. People are changing friendships and relationships; those who are not strong ends up being used by others. A powerful collection of text and full-color photographs that offers an intimate glimpse of Native American life. • Includes rare photos and firsthand accounts of the sun dance, sacred pipe, yuwipi, and vision quest ceremonies. • By internationally recognized ethnographer Richard Erdoes, author of Lame Deer: Seeker of Visions and Gift of Power. How do you go about knowing a people? In this phenomenal combination of landscape, ceremony, individual portrait, and prose, Richard Erdoes brings forth the lesser seen world of the Native American experience and vision. With the aid of firsthand accounts collected during three decades of personal interactions with indigenous tribes, Erdoes chronicles the traditional rites, individual lives, and historical persecution of North America's indigenous peoples. The images and words of Crying for a Dream represent Erdoes' finest work. His focus on the natural and sacred world of North America's indigenous peoples includes elements of the Sioux ceremonial cycle and portraits of native peoples from the plains, mesas, and deserts. The sun dance, sacred pipe, yuwipi, and vision quest are described by the author and his subjects and are illustrated with more than 70 photographs.

Why Only Humans Weep written by Ad Vingerhoets and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-02-28 with Psychology categories.

Crying has fascinated mankind for millenia. Since ancient times, we have known that emotional tears are a unique human characteristic. Unsurprisingly, over hundreds of years, scholars from different backgrounds have speculated about the origin and functions of human tears. According to Charles Darwin, tears fulfilled no adaptive function. And yet, this seems in sharp contrast to statements in the popular media about the significance of crying. Crying is thought to bring relief and is considered healthy - and withholding tears unhealthy. In addition, tears have been said to inhibit aggression in assaulters and to promote social bonding. Perhaps that could explain why tears have been so important in our evolution. Ad Vingerhoets is one of the few scientists in the world to have studied crying. He examines in Why only humans weep which claims about crying are scientifically tenable - which are fact and which are fiction? Though a psychologist, he doesn't just restrict himself to the current psychological literature, but also explores work in evolutionary biology, neurosciences, theology, art, history, and anthropology to provide an integrated perspective on this complex phenomenon. Written throughout in an academically accessible style, this book is groundbreaking in contributing to a modern scientific understanding of crying. It will have broad appeal to psychologists, psychiatrists, philosophers, biologists, and anthropologists.

I have fought through what seems like the depths of hell, just to only scratch the surface. I have felt more pain than the average woman should ever have the misfortune in coming into contact with. I have been devalued, tortured, beaten, raped and left for dead. But all I hear is the media calling me a cold hearted monster. I hear them say that I am unfit to walk with today’s society as if they knew the issue that had lead up to this. The public always listened to the media’s twists of ideas and lies. So much so that the public became brainwashed and began their so-called trial of prejudices. And the public bandwagons are always a strong deciding factor in a murder trial. They don’t know my struggles or pain. They don’t know about the fear that I had to deal with but yet they judge. I sit here in my prison cell with no fancy carpeting, just cold walls and damp floors. No exquisite dining, just a quickly put together tray. I have no friends...just parents. The inmates aren’t so bad, most of them have in-house bets going with the guards. The wager is on my verdict, whether im guilty or not guilty. Inmates ask me all the time if I could, would I take it all back? I just reply with a dense smile and a warm look but nothing more. I know that I would never take what I did to him back...ever. He deserved everything that I did to him and more. He had me fooled. He had everyone fooled except for Nikki. Deep in my heart I knew she was right. So many issues I felt uncomfortable with, but yet I continued. I chose not to listen, not to take a stand and I paid the price. I have been quiet, drowning for so long, but now...NOW it’s my turn. It’s time for me to tell the story and for everyone else to listen.

"Over 15 chapters, Dunaway transforms what we know about icons and events. Seeing Green is the first history of ads, films, political posters, and magazine photography in the postwar American environmental movement. From fear of radioactive fallout during the Cold War to anxieties about global warming today, images have helped to produce what Dunaway calls "ecological citizenship, " telling us that "we are all to blame." Dunaway heightens our awareness of how depictions of environmental catastrophes are constructed, manipulated, and fought over" -- Publisher information.

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the indie rock sensation known as Japanese Breakfast, an unforgettable memoir about family, food, grief, love, and growing up Korean American—“in losing her mother and cooking to bring her back to life, Zauner became herself” (NPR). • CELEBRATING OVER ONE YEAR ON THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER LIST In this exquisite story of family, food, grief, and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter, and guitarist. With humor and heart, she tells of growing up one of the few Asian American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother's particular, high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother's tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food. As she grew up, moving to the East Coast for college, finding work in the restaurant industry, and performing gigs with her fledgling band--and meeting the man who would become her husband--her Koreanness began to feel ever more distant, even as she found the life she wanted to live. It was her mother's diagnosis of terminal cancer, when Michelle was twenty-five, that forced a reckoning with her identity and brought her to reclaim the gifts of taste, language, and history her mother had given her. Vivacious and plainspoken, lyrical and honest, Zauner's voice is as radiantly alive on the page as it is onstage. Rich with intimate anecdotes that will resonate widely, and complete with family photos, Crying in H Mart is a book to cherish, share, and reread.
