Well-known DJ Nikki Hayes has lived most of her life with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), a serious mental disorder marked by a pattern of ongoing instability in mood, behaviour, self-image and functioning. BPD is also associated with severe functional impairment and high rates of suicide. Nikki should have been diagnosed aged fifteen the first time she came in contact with the mental health services with anorexia; or aged nineteen, after an attempted suicide; or aged thirty-four when she was diagnosed with post-natal depression. Instead, each time she was given a different diagnosis, none fully explaining her symptoms or actions. Nikki believes her illness went undetected for so long because a lot of how she was feeling and acting was easily explained away by lumping it under the umbrella term of ‘depression’, or by simply attributing it to attention seeking or just being a little out of control. By sharing her story Nikki hopes to help others see that they are not alone and encourage greater support for people suffering with mental health issues in Ireland. #StrongerTogether

This book is the most unusual you will ever read in life. It's about how we should love more, laugh more, and maybe cry less. It's a cookbook with some wonderful recipes for your family. There are two types of recipes in this book. Recipes for the natural man and the spiritual man. The recipes will change us, enhance us, advance us, and help us to see life from a different perspective should we choose to. There are times when we refuse to see and believe what's staring us in the face. This book is about living life to our fullest potential. It's about being able to enjoy the quality of live we deserve without being stressed, depressed, and bound. It's about being able to laugh and cry during the bad times as well as the good times. We have all been hurt, disappointed, or even abused by our family, friends and those we hold in high esteem. When that happens, we must learn to forgive and move on, seek and receive help from professionals sometimes, and those who can help us without judging us. Life may throw us a curve ball, but we must decide what to do with the ball when thrown. This book is about helping us to be better and to do better in the decisions we make and the life we choose to live. We all have fallen short in some way or another. The anecdotes you read will allow us to see ourselves and make an effort or decision to do better. Sometimes, we can read something that can change our lives forever versus someone coming out and telling us our faults and failures. Take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy yourself as you embark upon reading Cooking, Laughing, and Crying in the Kitchen.

A secluded house. A lost notebook. A wartime secret. 1942: Young Irish nurse Ellen arrives at May Day House, tasked with helping the men there rehabilitate. But there’s something strange about the house, surrounded by water, on its own island in the Thames. And then there are the men: traumatised by their experiences of war, and subject to troubling methods in a desperate race to get them back to duty. As Ellen gets drawn into the world of May Day House, she starts to realise this will be no place to hide away from her own troubles... 2013: Philip and Meredith are the proud new owners of May Day House. Following a string of tragedies, the couple have moved to the area in search of a new start. But all is not what it seems in the riverside community. As their plans for the rundown house meet resistance from the neighbours, Meredith finds herself slowly unravelling: she hears voices on the water, sees figures where there can be no one there. When she finds an old notebook from the war, she seeks solace in the stories about the former patients of the island. But will shadows from the past threaten her future happiness – and even her life? Curl up with this rich and spellbinding story of love and war, perfect for fans of Kate Morton, Eve Chase and Lucinda Riley. 'Beautifully written and delightfully unsettling... an evocative read, set in an unusual landscape, that will pull you in from the first page' – Rachel Burton

With four active boys at home, forty-one-year-old Stella Grayson has no energy or desire to raise another child. When she becomes pregnant, she does everything she can to deny her pregnancy exists. When little Myra is born, Stella refuses to acknowledge the child, hoping she can put the baby up for adoption. Stella’s husband, John, would never agree; he’s been hoping to raise a little girl. The doctor sends Myra to the morgue to die. But God intervenes, and Myra is given a chance at life. Despite Myra’s deep feelings of inadequacy, the Lord gave her an unquenchable love for others and an irrepressible joy for life. Her journey through childhood and her adolescent years is long and the struggles are hard, but the end result surprises even Myra’s bruised and tender heart. Based on an inspiring true story, Crying in the Morgue, Laughing in the Dark is filled with deep emotional truths that speak to the heart of women. With real and sympathetic characters, the story weaves a picture of God’s tenacious love and the joy that could not be contained in his precious daughter.

THE SUNDAY TIMES TOP TEN BESTSELLER, JUNE 2021 'Annie Macmanus is writer whose understanding and capturing of human nature comes as easily to her as breathing' CANDICE CARTY-WILLIAMS 'A work of gilded melancholy that is going to take everyone by surprise' UNA MULLALLY 'Macmanus writes with flair and confidence rarely seen in a debut' SINÉAD GLEESON One Saturday morning, TJ McConnell wakes up to find his mother, Mary, gone. He doesn't know where - or why - but he's the only one who can help find her. Mary grew up longing for information about the mother she never knew. Her brother could barely remember her, and their father numbed his pain with drink. Now aged thirty-seven, Mary has lived in the same house her whole life. She's never left Belfast. TJ, who's about to turn eighteen, is itching to see more of the world. But when his mother disappears, TJ begins to realise what he's been taking for granted. MOTHER MOTHER takes us down the challenging road of Mary's life while following TJ's increasingly desperate search for her, as he begins to discover what has led her to this point. This is a story about family, grief, addiction and motherhood, and it asks an important question - if you spend your life giving everything to the ones you love, do you risk losing yourself along the way? 'A brilliant book...that explores the brutal legacy of addiction and the consequences of a deep grief left to stagnate' Sara Cox 'A tender, surprising, occasionally bleak, moving and delicate book' Irish Times 'A study of grief, addiction and what it means to be a mother' Stylist 'Melancholy, beautifully unadorned prose' Mail on Sunday 'Unflinching and unsparing but also beautifully written' Daily Mail 'An incredible debut' Daily Mirror 'A page-turning exploration of grief, addiction, young motherhood and unbreakable family ties' British Vogue
