Software-based cryptography can be used for security applications where data traffic is not too large and low encryption rate is tolerable. But hardware methods are more suitable where speed and real-time encryption are needed. Until now, there has been no book explaining how cryptographic algorithms can be implemented on reconfigurable hardware devices. This book covers computational methods, computer arithmetic algorithms, and design improvement techniques needed to implement efficient cryptographic algorithms in FPGA reconfigurable hardware platforms. The author emphasizes the practical aspects of reconfigurable hardware design, explaining the basic mathematics involved, and giving a comprehensive description of state-of-the-art implementation techniques.

Data security is an important requirement for almost all, if not all, information-oriented applications such as e-commerce, digital signature, secure Internet, etc. All these services use encrypted data. Cryptography is a milliner science that was the key to the secret of ancient Rome and a fundamental piece in the Second World War. Today, it is a star in the computation world. Several operating systems, data base systems or simple filling systems provide the user with cryptographic functions that allow controlled data scrambling. Modern cryptology, which is the basis of information security techniques, started in the late 1970's and developed in the 1980's. As communication networks were spreading deep into society, the need for secure communication greatly promoted cryptographic research. The need for fast but secure cryptographic systems is growing bigger. Therefore, dedicated hardware for cryptography is becoming a key issue for designers. With the spread of reconfigurable hardware such as FPGAs, hardware implementations of cryptographic algorithms became cost-effective. The focus of this book is on all aspects of cryptographic hardware and embedded systems. This includes design, implementation and security of such systems. The content of this book is divided into four main parts, each of which is organised in three chapters, with the exception of the last one.

Beginning with an introduction to cryptography, Hardware Security: Design, Threats, and Safeguards explains the underlying mathematical principles needed to design complex cryptographic algorithms. It then presents efficient cryptographic algorithm implementation methods, along with state-of-the-art research and strategies for the design of very large scale integrated (VLSI) circuits and symmetric cryptosystems, complete with examples of Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) ciphers, asymmetric ciphers, and elliptic curve cryptography (ECC). Gain a Comprehensive Understanding of Hardware Security—from Fundamentals to Practical Applications Since most implementations of standard cryptographic algorithms leak information that can be exploited by adversaries to gather knowledge about secret encryption keys, Hardware Security: Design, Threats, and Safeguards: Details algorithmic- and circuit-level countermeasures for attacks based on power, timing, fault, cache, and scan chain analysis Describes hardware intellectual property piracy and protection techniques at different levels of abstraction based on watermarking Discusses hardware obfuscation and physically unclonable functions (PUFs), as well as Trojan modeling, taxonomy, detection, and prevention Design for Security and Meet Real-Time Requirements If you consider security as critical a metric for integrated circuits (ICs) as power, area, and performance, you’ll embrace the design-for-security methodology of Hardware Security: Design, Threats, and Safeguards.

CHES 2009, the 11th workshop on Cryptographic Hardware and Embedded Systems, was held in Lausanne, Switzerland, September 6–9, 2009. The wo- shop was sponsored by the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR). The workshop attracted a record number of 148 submissions from 29 co- tries, of which the Program Committee selected 29 for publication in the wo- shop proceedings, resulting in an acceptance rate of 19.6%, the lowest in the history of CHES. The review process followed strict standards: each paper - ceived at least four reviews, and some asmanyaseightreviews.Membersofthe Program Committee were restricted to co-authoring at most two submissions, and their papers were evaluated by an extended number of reviewers. The ProgramCommittee included 53 members representing 20 countries and ?ve continents. These members were carefully selected to represent academia, industry, and government, as well as to include world-class experts in various research ?elds of interest to CHES. The Program Committee was supported by 148 external reviewers. The total number of people contributing to the - view process, including Program Committee members, external reviewers, and Program Co-chairs, exceeded 200. The papers collected in this volume represent cutting-edge worldwide - search in the rapidly growing and evolving area of cryptographic engineering.

Communicating Process Architectures 2004 written by Ian East and has been published by IOS Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Computers categories.

Communicating Process Architecture (CPA) describes an approach to system development that is process-oriented. It makes no great distinction between hardware and software. It has a major root in the theory of Communicating Sequential Processes (CSP). However, the underlying theory is not limited to CSP. The importance of mobility of both channel and process within a network sees integration with ideas from the ð-calculus. Other formalisms are also exploited, such as BSP and MPI. The focus is on sound methods for the engineering of significant concurrent systems, including those that are distributed (across the Internet or within a single chip) and/or software-scheduled on a single execution unit. Traditionally, at CPA, the emphasis has been on theory and practice - developing and applying tools based upon CSP and related theories to build high-integrity systems of significant size. In particular, interest focuses on achieving scalability and security against error. The development of Java, C, and C++, libraries to facilitate secure concurrent programming using 'mainstream' languages has allowed CPA to continue and proliferate. This work continues in support of the engineering of distributed applications. Recently, there has been greater reference to theory and its more direct application to programming systems and languages. In this volume the formal CSP is very well presented. The papers provide a healthy mixture of the academic and commercial, software and hardware, application and infrastructure, which reflects the nature of the discipline.

Cryptographic Engineering is the first book that discusses the design techniques and methods. The material of this book is scattered in journal and conference articles, and authors’ lecture notes. This is a first attempt by top cryptographic engineers to bring this material in a book form and make it available to electrical engineering and computer science students and engineers working for the industry. This book is intended for a graduate-level course in Cryptographic Engineering to be taught in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science departments. Students will have to have the knowledge of basic cryptographic algorithms before taking this course which will teach them how to design cryptographic hardware (FPGA, ASIC, custom) and embedded software to be used in secure systems. Additionally, engineers working in the industry will be interested in this book to learn how to design cryptographic chips and embedded software. Engineers working on the design of cellular phones, mobile computing and sensor systems, web and enterprise security systems which rely upon cryptographic hardware and software will be interested in this book. Essential and advanced design techniques for cryptography will be covered by this book.
