Las diferentes naciones del mundo no coexisten aisladas unas de otras. Sus vínculos pueden ser comerciales, económicos, históricos e incluso meramente geográficos. Cuba y República Dominicana no son una excepción, máxime cuando ambas se circunscriben al espacio latinoamericano y, más específicamente, al caribeño. En estos pueblos subyugados por políticos oportunistas el espíritu de libertad y solidaridad no deja de resurgir. Es así que este texto pone de relieve la ayuda entre ambas naciones frente a la hostilidad del imperialismo y los regímenes de fuerza implantados a lo largo de la historia en los países latinoamericanos, en medio de un contexto difícil: fin de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, con las carencias que implicó; con una política de Guerra Fría por los Estados Unidos que cercenaba toda posibilidad de recuperación; y, desde dentro, ambos pueblos oprimidos por el propio imperio del Norte.
