Il cibo è uno straordinario strumento di comunicazione. Dall'altro guarda alle azioni promosse dai pubblici poteri per garantire sicurezza alimentare ai sudditi, o cittadini: politici sono quegli interventi; politici i 'discorsi' che li accompagnano, facendone veicolo di propaganda e di narrazioni collettive. Intrecciando e facendo interagire tali prospettive, il 'linguaggio del cibo' non si limita a esprimere il reale, ma contribuisce a crearlo – come tutte le forme di comunicazione. I saggi del volume si muovono liberamente nel tempo e nello spazio, attraversando i territori della storia, dell'antropologia, della semiotica, della filosofia, della storia dell'arte. Approcci diversi e complementari, che evidenziano le sorprendenti potenzialità della storia dell'alimentazione come chiave di accesso alla storia.
