Inspirado pela teoria do Materialismo Dialéctico, divulgada nos meios políticos e intelectuais portugueses nos anos 30 e princípios dos anos 40 do século passado, o Neo-Realismo é a designação de um amplo movimento cuja expressão se afirma nos campos cultural, literário e artístico, não sendo também nada negligenciáveis as expressões filosófica e cientifica, entendida esta última na acepção dos domínios afectos às Ciências da Natureza e Matemática, de uma parte dos seus participantes ou companheiros de geração. Parece corroborar este último ponto, ou a influência do Neo-Realismo nos meios científicos, a defesa da ideia, feita por alguns autores, de "uma interpretação cientista do marxismo" adoptada pelos intelectuais marxistas portugueses envolvidos nesse movimento. Assim, a acompanhar o activismo literário-artístico neo-realista, afirmavam-se também os seus compagnons de route que militavam de uma forma mais actuante nos domínios da Filosofia, da Matemática e das Ciências da Natureza, não se poupando a esforços de, na imprensa afecta ao movimento, defender e desenvolver a popularização de temas científicos bem como o relevo e alcance da prática da investigação científica (e.g. O Diabo, Sol Nascente, Síntese e Vértice). Quase todos participavam, a bordo da fragata "Liberdade", nos passeios culturais no Tejo. E também uma boa parte deles também fizera parte do grupo de "amigos" do jornal Liberdade que, em meados da década de trinta, tentara salvar este jornal estudantil que se afirmava como radical e pertencendo à esquerda republicana. European colonization played a major role in the acquisition, formation, and destruction of different ways of knowing. Recently, many scholars and activists have come to ask: Are there ways in which knowledge might be decolonized? Epistemic Decolonization examines a variety of such projects from a critical and philosophical perspective. The book introduces the unfamiliar reader to the wide variety of approaches to the topic at hand, providing concrete examples along the way. It argues that the predominant contemporary approach to epistemic decolonization leads one into various intractable theoretical and practical problems. The book then closely investigates the political and scientific work of Frantz Fanon and Amílcar Cabral, demonstrating how their philosophical commitments can help lead one out of the practical and theoretical issues faced by the current, predominant orientation, and concludes by forging links between their work and that of some contemporary feminist epistemologists.
