En este libro se analizan las relaciones entre cine y política desde el punto de vista de los cambios provocados en la sociedad española por el paso de la dictadura a la democracia. Partiendo del marco de la teoría del discurso, se analiza el papel jugado por la cultura de masas en la transición a la democracia. Para ello, se estudian los cambios políticos que afectaron al cine -como institución social- y a las películas - como discursos comunicativos concretos-, tanto en el nivel del control como en el de las innovaciones temáticas que encontraron referencia en los filmes españoles. A lo largo de este análisis se comprueba cómo las lógicas de la política y de la cultura de masas convergieron estrechamente durante la transición. Para ello se estudia cómo el cambio afectó a aspectos tales como las políticas culturales, la censura, el NO-DO, la organización administrativa estatal, la crítica cinematográfica, las asociaciones profesionales, los cineclubs, filmotecas, etc.

This book provides a comprehensive cultural and historical account of the key film policies put into place by the Spanish state between 1980 and 2010 through a gendered lens, framing these policies within the wider context of European film legislation. Departing from the belief that there is no such thing as an objective and value-neutral approach to policy analysis because our society is organised around gender, this volume builds upon Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of field to propose that film policies do not emerge in a vacuum because they respond to different demands from those agents involved in the field of the Spanish cinema.
