Manage Weeds on Your Farm: A Guide to Ecological Strategies provides you with in-depth information about dozens of agricultural weeds found throughout the country and the best ways of managing them. In Part One, the book begins with a general discussion of weeds: their biology, behavior and the characteristics that influence how to best control their populations. It then describes the strengths and limitations of the most common cultural management practices, physical practices and cultivation tools. Part Two is a reference section that describes the identification, ecology and management of 63 of the most common and difficult-to-control weed species found in the United States.

Precision farming is an agricultural management system using global navigation satellite systems, geographic information systems, remote sensing, and data management systems for optimizing the use of nutrients, water, seed, pesticides and energy in heterogeneous field situations. This book provides extensive information on the state-of-the-art of research on precision crop protection and recent developments in site-specific application technologies for the management of weeds, arthropod pests, pathogens and nematodes. It gives the reader an up-to-date and in-depth review of both basic and applied research developments. The chapters discuss I) biology and epidemiology of pests, II) new sensor technologies, III) applications of multi-scale sensor systems, IV) sensor detection of pests in growing crops, V) spatial and non-spatial data management, VI) impact of pest heterogeneity and VII) precise mechanical and chemical pest control.

Recent Advances In Weed Management written by Bhagirath S. Chauhan and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-10 with Science categories.
This volume addresses recent developments in weed science. These developments include conservation agriculture and conservation tillage, climate change, environmental concerns about the runoff of agrochemicals, resistance of weeds and crops to herbicides, and the need for a vastly improved understanding of weed ecology and herbicide use. The book provides details on harnessing knowledge of weed ecology to improve weed management in different crops and presents information on opportunities in weed management in different crops. Current management practices are also covered, along with guidance for selecting herbicides and using them effectively. Written by experts in the field and supplemented with instructive illustrations and tables, Recent Advances in Weed Management is an essential reference for agricultural specialists and researchers, government agents, extension specialists, and professionals throughout the agrochemical industry, as well as a foundation for advanced students taking courses in weed science.

Efficacy And Economics Of Cultural And Mechanical Weed Control Practices For Herbicide Resistant Weed Management written by Elizabeth G. Mosqueda and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with Agronomy categories.
Proactive herbicide resistant weed management (HRWM) practices are underused in many cropping systems. This may be due, in part, to a lack of knowledge on the impact of non-herbicide management practices on herbicide-resistant (HR) weed development. By determining the efficacy and economic impacts of non-herbicide weed management on development of herbicide resistance, we hope to prolong the efficacy of herbicides, thereby reducing the evolution and spread of new HR weed species. A four year study was conducted in the Northern Great Plains to evaluate the impacts of tillage, crop rotation, and herbicide regime on ALS-resistant kochia (Bassia scoparia) development, economic feasibility, and enrichment of herbicide resistance over time. Crops with more dense canopies and closely spaced rows and treated with non ALS-herbicides significantly reduced kochia emergence compared to crops with less dense canopies and treated with ALS-herbicides only. Over time, more diverse crop rotations and treating with ALS-herbicide mixtures resulted in reduced kochia density, seed production, and additions to the weed seedbank compared to less diverse crop rotations and ALS-herbicide rotations. The final year of the study, increased yields and returns over variable cost and owner’s labor were observed within a four crop rotation opposed to monoculture, two, and three crop rotations. Enrichment of resistance over time was found to have little to no influence between less and more diverse cultural, mechanical, and chemical weed management programs.

Herbaceous Field Crops Cultivation written by Giovanni Mauromicale and has been published by Mdpi AG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-17 with Science categories.
Herbaceous field crops include several hundred plant species worldly widespread for different end-uses, from food to no-food applications. Among them are included cereals, grain legumes, sugar beet, potato, cotton, tobacco, sunflower, safflower, rape, flax, soybean, alfalfa, clover spp. and other fodder crops, but only 15-20 species play a relevant role for the worldly global economy. Nowadays, to meet the food demand of the ever-increasing world population in a scenario of decreased arable lands, the development of holistic agricultural management approaches to boost contemporaneously yield and quality of herbaceous field crops is essential. Accordingly, this book represents an up-to-date collection of the current understanding of the impact of several agricultural management factors (i.e., genetic selection, planting density and arrangement, fertilization, irrigation, weed control and harvest time) on the yield and qualitative performances of 11 field crops (wheat, cardoon, potato, clary sage, basil, sugarcane, canola, cotton, tomato, lettuce and hemp). On the whole, the topics covered in this book will ensure students and academic readers, such as plant physiologists, environmental scientists, biotechnologists, botanists, soil chemists and agronomists, to get the information about the recent research advances on the eco-sustainable management cultivation of herbaceous field crops, with a particular focus on varietal development, soil nutrient and water management, weed control, etc.
