A market-town situated upon an agreeable hill, sloping towards the margin of the river Teme. It consists of two principal avenues, intersecting each other at right angles; and the gentle acclivity of the streets gives a picturesque appearance, afl'ords a grateful view of the enclosing valley, and is attended with cleanliness. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of St. David's and province of Canterbury, of the certified value of £10. Per annum patrons and im propriators, the Warden and Trustees of the hospital of Clun, in Shtup shire, which was founded and endowed in the reign of James I b an earl of Northampton. The petty sessions for the hundred are held ere once a month. A small free-school, in this town, is endowed, by a Mr. Barnsley, with £1. Per annum; and here are six aims-houses for the accommodation of the poor. The famous boundary, called Ofl'a's-dyke, enters the parish on the north, and running due south for two miles, may be traced through the parishes of Norton, Whitton, Discoed, and Old Radnor, in this county, after which it passes into Hereford.
