Curriculum studies is at the core of the educational endeavour and informs what happens in every educational institution. As a result of its criticality or primacy, every educational practitioner appears to claim expertise in curriculum matters and what direction the field should take. In Africa, the curriculum practitioner has been given little or no space to theorise and orient the future of the field in Africa. Instead, European, and American curriculum theorisers have been allowed to exert a marked influence on the nature and direction of African theoretical and philosophical underpinnings. This situation raises fundamental questions about the future of education in Africa and this volume explores and answers these questions relating to curriculum theory, theorising and the theoriser by breaking traditions and experimenting on alternative approaches and pathways. Much has been written about successful curricula for/of the fourth/Fifth Industrial Revolution (4/5IR). The written work has been dominated by a contestation between content-driven approaches (professional needs) and outcomes-driven approaches (societal needs). The contestation between these approaches misses the production of conclusive curriculum components that underpin a successful digitalised curriculum for/of the 4/5IR. The contestation further misses a pragmatic curriculum, which is capable of addressing individual-unique needs. As such, this book concentrates on curriculum components that underpin a successful digitalised curriculum for/of the 4/5IR. It further discusses curriculum components for/of a pragmatic curriculum that harmonises between the two dominating approaches. Contributors are: Bongani Boy Dlamini, Reuben S. Dlamini, Terrie Jwan Sella, Simon Bhekumuzi Khoza, Dumisa C. Mabuza, Makhulu A. Makumane, Dumsani W. Mncube, Cedric Bheki Mpungose, Sandile Ngcobo, Makhosazana E. The scholars who contribute to this volume respond to the great need to rethink journalism from various perspectives including journalism training, research, the contents of the news media, language, media ethics, the safety of journalists and gender inequities in the news media. In doing this, they recognise how the societies that journalism address should themselves change.

Music has long played a prominent role in cultural diplomacy, but until now no resource has comparatively examined policies that shape how non-western countries use music for international relations. Ethnomusicology and Cultural Diplomacy, edited by scholars David G. Hebert and Jonathan McCollum, demonstrates music's role in international relations worldwide. Specifically, this book offers "insider" views from expert contributors writing about music as a part of cultural diplomacy initiatives in Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Syria, Japan, China, India, Vietnam, Ethiopia, South Africa, and Nigeria. Unique features include the book's emphasis on diverse legal frameworks, decolonial perspectives, and cultural policies that serve as a basis for how nations outside “the west” use music in their relationships with Europe and North America.
