El presente Curso de Filosofía del Derecho destinado a la enseñanza universitaria— constituye una exposición sistemática de la materia a la luz de la doctrina iusnaturalista de los grandes maestros del mundo antiguo (Platón, Aristóteles, Cicerón), de los juristas romanos, de los Doctores de la Filosofía Cristiana (San Agustín, Santo Tomás de Aquino, Cayetano Vitoria, Domingo de Soto), y de maestros posteriores como Taparelli, Liberatore, Zigliara, Mesner, Leclarcq y Fernández Concha. Se expone también el pensamiento positivista, particularmente, el sistema de Kelsen y, asimismo, las ideas del llamado positivismo conceptual y en especial el sistema de Rawls. La primera parte de la obra trata en forma completa y rigurosa las nociones de antropología y metafísica necesarias para fundamentar la Filosofía del Derecho y que otros textos omiten, dándolas por sabidas. La segunda parte contiene la teoría del acto humano y de la ley, tanto natural como positiva, continúa con la justicia y el derecho, los derechos innatos —especialmente el derecho a la vida y el derecho a la propiedad— y concluye con los temas de familia. En esta segunda edición, se trata también de la imputabilidad, se actualiza la exposición de la doctrina de la iglesia sobre la pena de muerte y se ve el derecho natural en los padres fundadores de Estados Unidos.
