Only a slight acquaintance with mathematics beyond the high-school level is necessary, including some familiarity with calculus and linear algebra. This text's introductions to several branches of geometry feature topics and treatments based on memorability and relevance. The author emphasizes connections with calculus and simple mechanics, focusing on developing students' grasp of spatial relationships. Subjects include classical Euclidean material, polygonal and circle isoperimetry, conics and Pascal's theorem, geometrical optimization, geometry and trigonometry on a sphere, graphs, convexity, and elements of differential geometry of curves. Additional material may be conveniently introduced in several places, and each chapter concludes with exercises of varying degrees of difficulty.

Three-dimensional scoliosis therapy has for decades played an established role in the conservative management of mild and even of severe scoliosis. As well as describing every aspect of the pathologically curved, deformed spine, this textbook incorporates an extensive programme of exercises that can be tailored specifically to the needs of the individual patient. As outlined in Three-Dimensional Scoliosis Therapy: The Schroth Breathing Orthopaedic System, correction of the spinal deformity is based on a special breathing technique and active muscle stretching, as well as on elongation, detorsion and reduction of lordosis. The provision of psychological support for the patient is also emphasised as a key element. Christa Lehnert-Schroth born 1924 in Meissen She worked as a physiotherapist for about 50 years with scoliosis patients and further developed her mother's breathing orthopaedic technique with great success. Between 1961 and 1995 Christa Lehnert-Schroth - always surrounded by physicians - was director of the private Katharina-Schroth-Klinik in Bad Sobernheim/Germany. In many lectures, articles, seminars and films for physiotherapists and medical doctors in addition to recorded discs for patient's training at home she illustrated her mother's special method for scoliosis assuring well being of many patients and in honor her mother's legacy.

People with Hypermobility Syndrome (HMS), including Ehlers-Danlos type Hypermobility Syndrome, have a larger range of joint movement than is typical, which can cause pain and fatigue despite an outward appearance of good health. This book is the complete guide to living with and managing HMS, and ultimately enjoying a fulfilling life. The book covers everything from recognising symptoms and obtaining initial diagnosis to living with the condition on a daily basis and managing its negative effects. The author, who has HMS herself, looks at how the condition affects children and adolescents, before moving on to explore pain management (including the use of physiotherapy, pilates and a selected range of complementary health therapies), pregnancy, physical and psychological aspects of the condition, and how it widely affects dancers and other performance artists. Wider conditions that encompass Hypermobility Syndrome are also touched upon, including Fibromyalgia and IBS. This book will be a must for anybody who suffers, or suspects they might be suffering from, Hypermobility Syndrome. It will also be of interest to their families and friends, and professionals working with the condition.
