She fosters a nuanced, multi-faceted approach to labor that takes human and animal well-being seriously, and that challenges readers to not only think deeply and differently about animals and work, but to reflect on the potential for interspecies solidarity. The result is an engaging, expansive, and path-making text.

Cyber Marx written by Nick Dyer-Witheford and has been published by University of Illinois Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Business & Economics categories.

In this highly readable and thought-provoking work, Nick Dyer-Witheford assesses the relevance of Marxism in our time and demonstrates how the information age, far from transcending the historic conflict between capital and its laboring subjects, constitutes the latest battleground in their encounter. Dyer-Witheford maps the dynamics of modern capitalism, showing how capital depends for its operations not just on exploitation in the immediate workplace, but on the continuous integration of a whole series of social sites and activities, from public health and maternity to natural resource allocation and the geographical reorganization of labor power. He also shows how these sites and activities may become focal points of subversion and insurgency, as new means of communication vital for the smooth flow of capital also permit otherwise isolated and dispersed points of resistance to connect and combine with one another. Cutting through the smokescreen of high-tech propaganda, Dyer-Witheford predicts the advent of a reinvented, "autonomist" Marxism that will rediscover the possibility of a collective, communist transformation of society. Refuting the utopian promises of the information revolution, he discloses the real potentialities for a new social order in the form of a twenty-first-century communism based on the common sharing of wealth.

Neither Vertical Nor Horizontal written by Rodrigo Nunes and has been published by Verso Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-25 with Political Science categories.

A decade ago, a wave of mass mobilisations described as "horizontal" and "leaderless" swept the planet, holding the promise of real democracy and justice for the 99%. Many saw its subsequent ebb as proof of the need to go back to what was once called "the question of organisation". For something so often described as essential, however, political organisation remains a surprisingly under-theorised field. In this book, Rodrigo Nunes proposes to remedy that lack by starting again from scratch. Redefining the terms of the problem, he rejects the confusion between organisation and any of the forms it can take, such as the party, and argues that organisation must be understood as always supposing a diverse ecology of different initiatives and organisational forms. Drawing from a wide array of sources and traditions that include cybernetics, poststructuralism, network theory and Marxism, Nunes develops a grammar that eschews easy oppositions between "verticalism" and "horizontalism", centralisation and dispersion, and offers a fresh approach to enduring issues like spontaneity, leadership, democracy, strategy, populism, revolution, and the relationship between movements and parties.

Experimenting The Human written by G Douglas Barrett and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-13 with Music categories.

An engaging argument about what experimental music can tell us about being human. In Experimenting the Human, G Douglas Barrett argues that experimental music speaks to the contemporary posthuman, a condition in which science and technology decenter human agency amid the uneven temporality of postwar global capitalism. Time moves forward for some during this period, while it seems to stand still or even move backward for others. Some say we’re already posthuman, while others endure the extended consequences of never having been considered fully human in the first place. Experimental music reflects on this state, Barrett contends, through its interdisciplinary involvements in postwar science, technology, and art movements. Rather than pursuing the human's beyond, experimental music addresses the social and technological conditions that support such a pursuit. Barrett locates this tendency of experimentalism throughout its historical entanglements with cybernetics, and in his intimate analysis of Alvin Lucier’s neurofeedback music, Pamela Z’s BodySynth performances, Nam June Paik’s musical robotics, Pauline Oliveros’s experiments with radio astronomy, and work by Laetitia Sonami, Yasunao Tone, and Jerry Hunt. Through a unique meeting of music studies, media theory, and art history, Experimenting the Human provides fresh insights into what it means to be human.

This is an open access book. Technology is changing everything. As digitization, advanced analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) sweep across industries and geographies, they aren’t just reshaping the competitive landscape; they’re redefining the organizational imperative: adapt or die. Wait and see is not an option; it’s a death sentence. Today the world is changing rapidly. This has created a sense of urgency to embrace this change for the sustainability of both individual and corporate existence. The name of this future world on the brink of change and transformation is VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity). Current phenomena include the rise of artificial intelligence, which can impact education and workforces, fast-paced businesses, and other advances that create VUCA. Understanding the VUCA world, adapting to it, and focusing on the opportunities rather than the challenges it brings are the basis of sustainability. To increase or maintain the level of development of the countries, and increasing technological advancement, the world is concurrently facing political instability, deteriorating environmental conditions, poverty, and an imbalance in the distribution of wealth. Although the VUCA era seems to lead to a pessimistic situation, giving up is not wise. The world will continue to move, but humans will always be able to adjust. The key lies in the individual’s willingness to keep learning and trying. In this case, three things that need to be built are goals, processes, and support. The goal or goal itself is an orientation that needs to be the basis for action. This issue becomes fascinating to discuss from various perspectives and see how we could utilize & empower technology to mitigate the risks. To empower the use of technology from Humanities, Business & Political Perspectives in the VUCA Era, the Faculty of Law, Social and Political Sciences (FHISIP) of the Universitas Terbuka took the initiative to organize an international seminar with the theme “Empowering Technology: Humanities, Business & Political Perspectives in VUCA Era”
