ÔOnly the polyglott Barbara Czarniawska, a keen ethnographer of organizations, could give us a picture of the production of news in the age of digital reproduction. By a close description of the process through which news agencies elaborate this exquisitely complex product Ð the piece of news Ð she manages to give us a realistic interpretation of what technology and globalization do to journalism. Far from indicating the end of the trade and the dissolution of its credibility, her careful and witty account shows the many ways in which authority of information may be regained. Walter Lippmann would have loved this book.Õ Ð Bruno Latour, Sciences Po Paris, France ÔTT, Ansa, Reuters are not intermediaries that transfer information to their clients, rather they are producers of the news. . . or better, in this book, they are fac(s)tories. This passionate journey into the management of overflow of news input and output starts with the question: when a flow is an overflow? How do people daily survive such overflow? Read the book and discover how the answer is simpler than expected!Õ Ð Silvia Gherardi, University of Trento, Italy Have you ever wondered how organizations decide which news is important? This insightful book portrays in detail everyday work in three news agencies: Swedish TT, Italian ANSA and the worldwide Reuters. This unique study is about organizing rather than journalism, revealing two accelerating phenomena: cybernization (machines play a more and more central role in news production) and cyborgization (people rely more and more on machines). Barbara Czarniawska reveals that technological developments lead to many unexpected consequences and complications. Cyberfactories will prove essential to researchers interested in contemporary forms of organizing, studies of technology, and media. It will also appeal to a lay reader interested in how news is produced.

This book is a collection of papers presented at UCS 2004, held on November 8–9 in Tokyo. UCS is a series of international symposia sponsored by the special interest group Ubiquitous Computing Systems of the Information Processing Society of Japan. The ?rst UCS was held on November 17, 2003 in Kyoto. It was held as an invitation-based symposium. UCS 2004 was the second of the series, and the ?rst submission-based conference. UCS focuses on the emerging researcharea of ubiquitous computing systems. This emergence is an outcome of the rapid evolution in smart appliances and devices, as well as tremendous advances in wireless networks and mobile c- puting.Inthelastfewyears, variousapplicationsofinformationtechnologyhave been changing our everyday life rapidly and to a large extent. The best ex- ple is the use of mobile phones. By getting new sensing devices, cameras, their application ?eld is no longer limited to communication but covers data c- munications including Internet access, and data and program up-/downloading, and so on. The symposium o?ered the opportunity for in-depth exploration of the most recent research and development ?ndings in the ?eld of ubiquitous computing. The submitted papers presented at UCS 2004 suggest such a direction to future technologies, including mobile ad hoc networks, sensor networks and conte- aware technologies.

Disebabkan satu perkataan... “Saya rasa awak perlukan deodorant. Bau awak masam. Anyway, thanks… Saya akan balas budi baik awak tu nanti!” Aku bencikan seseorang yang bernama Xaif Umar. Tapi, mana nak sangka... Benci aku membawa kepada rezeki tak terduga... “Jadi, cik nak suruh saya jadi assistant kepada The Flash? Cik yakin saya boleh buat ke? Sedangkan The Hulk pun tak boleh nak kawal dia... Apalah lagi saya yang macam The Dwarf ni?” Dan, akhirnya... “Tiga... Tet! Masa dah tamat. You... Stuck with me!” Aku jadi pembantu dia. Bermulalah plot cerita benci antara aku dan Xaif Umar. “Orang tua-tua kata, kalau benci... Lama-lama sayang. Orang tua-tualah kata. Bukan saya.” Tapi ini bukan cerita benci biasa-biasa... Sebab aku benci Xaif Umar tapi aku sayang Aidit Ulhaq. “Hah... Kat girlfriend. Can I call you that now, Amaya?” Dah lama aku tunggu cinta dia... Akhirnya aku dapat. Tapi, orang tua-tua ada kata... Selalunya, yang tak maulah... Yang kita dapat! “Sudi tak awak menjadi isteri kepada orang yang awak benci?” Dah tu... Apa jadi dengan orang yang aku sayang?
