Cyber Physical Systems A Model Based Approach written by Walid M. Taha and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-01 with Computers categories.
In this concise yet comprehensive Open Access textbook, future inventors are introduced to the key concepts of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). Using modeling as a way to develop deeper understanding of the computational and physical components of these systems, one can express new designs in a way that facilitates their simulation, visualization, and analysis. Concepts are introduced in a cross-disciplinary way. Leveraging hybrid (continuous/discrete) systems as a unifying framework and Acumen as a modeling environment, the book bridges the conceptual gap in modeling skills needed for physical systems on the one hand and computational systems on the other. In doing so, the book gives the reader the modeling and design skills they need to build smart, IT-enabled products. Starting with a look at various examples and characteristics of Cyber-Physical Systems, the book progresses to explain how the area brings together several previously distinct ones such as Embedded Systems, Control Theory, and Mechatronics. Featuring a simulation-based project that focuses on a robotics problem (how to design a robot that can play ping-pong) as a useful example of a CPS domain, Cyber-Physical Systems: A Model-Based Approach demonstrates the intimate coupling between cyber and physical components, and how designing robots reveals several non-trivial control problems, significant embedded and real-time computation requirements, and a need to consider issues of communication and preconceptions.

As systems continue to evolve they rely less on human decision-making and more on computational intelligence. This trend in conjunction to the available technologies for providing advanced sensing, measurement, process control, and communication lead towards the new field of Cyber-Physical System (CPS). Cyber-physical systems are expected to play a major role in the design and development of future engineering platforms with new capabilities that far exceed today’s levels of autonomy, functionality and usability. Although these systems exhibit remarkable characteristics, their design and implementation is a challenging issue, as numerous (heterogeneous) components and services have to be appropriately modeled and simulated together. The problem of designing efficient CPS becomes far more challenging in case the target system has to meet also real-time constraints.CyberPhysical Systems: Decision Making Mechanisms and Applications describes essential theory, recent research and large-scale usecases that addresses urgent challenges in CPS architectures. In particular, it includes chapters on:• Decision making for large scale CPS• Modeling of CPS with emphasis at the control mechanisms• Hardware/software implementation of the control mechanisms• Fault-tolerant and reliability issues for the control mechanisms• Cyberphysical user-cases that incorporate challenging decision making

A graduate-level textbook that presents a unified mathematical framework for modeling and analyzing cyber-physical systems, with a strong focus on verification. Verification aims to establish whether a system meets a set of requirements. For such cyber-physical systems as driverless cars, autonomous spacecraft, and air-traffic management systems, verification is key to building safe systems with high levels of assurance. This graduate-level textbook presents a unified mathematical framework for modeling and analyzing cyber-physical systems, with a strong focus on verification. It distills the ideas and algorithms that have emerged from more than three decades of research and have led to the creation of industrial-scale modeling and verification techniques for cyber-physical systems. The book discusses such computer science concepts as undecidability and abstractions, alongside concepts from control theory including multiple Lyapunov functions and barrier certificates, all within a unified mathematical language. It explains algorithms for reachability analysis, counter-example guided abstraction refinement, and data-driven verification, as well as the key data structures that enable their effective implementation. Other topics include invariants, deductive verification, progress analysis, sensitivity analysis, simulation relations, fairness, model checking, satisfiability modulo theories, temporal logics, compositional reasoning, convergence analysis, asynchronous processes, and verification of black-box systems. The book provides more than twenty examples of cyber-physical verification, ranging from conceptual models to advanced driving-assist systems. Each chapter offers exercise problems; supporting materials, including slides, simulation code, additional exercises, and solutions are available on the book's website.

Written by a team of experts at the forefront of the cyber-physical systems (CPS) revolution, this book provides an in-depth look at security and privacy, two of the most critical challenges facing both the CPS research and development community and ICT professionals. It explores, in depth, the key technical, social, and legal issues at stake, and it provides readers with the information they need to advance research and development in this exciting area. Cyber-physical systems (CPS) are engineered systems that are built from, and depend upon the seamless integration of computational algorithms and physical components. Advances in CPS will enable capability, adaptability, scalability, resiliency, safety, security, and usability far in excess of what today’s simple embedded systems can provide. Just as the Internet revolutionized the way we interact with information, CPS technology has already begun to transform the way people interact with engineered systems. In the years ahead, smart CPS will drive innovation and competition across industry sectors, from agriculture, energy, and transportation, to architecture, healthcare, and manufacturing. A priceless source of practical information and inspiration, Security and Privacy in Cyber-Physical Systems: Foundations, Principles and Applications is certain to have a profound impact on ongoing R&D and education at the confluence of security, privacy, and CPS.

This open access book coherently gathers well-founded information on the fundamentals of and formalisms for modelling cyber-physical systems (CPS). Highlighting the cross-disciplinary nature of CPS modelling, it also serves as a bridge for anyone entering CPS from related areas of computer science or engineering. Truly complex, engineered systems—known as cyber-physical systems—that integrate physical, software, and network aspects are now on the rise. However, there is no unifying theory nor systematic design methods, techniques or tools for these systems. Individual (mechanical, electrical, network or software) engineering disciplines only offer partial solutions. A technique known as Multi-Paradigm Modelling has recently emerged suggesting to model every part and aspect of a system explicitly, at the most appropriate level(s) of abstraction, using the most appropriate modelling formalism(s), and then weaving the results together to form a representation of the system. If properly applied, it enables, among other global aspects, performance analysis, exhaustive simulation, and verification. This book is the first systematic attempt to bring together these formalisms for anyone starting in the field of CPS who seeks solid modelling foundations and a comprehensive introduction to the distinct existing techniques that are multi-paradigmatic. Though chiefly intended for master and post-graduate level students in computer science and engineering, it can also be used as a reference text for practitioners.

Addressing the rising security issues during the design stages of cyber-physical systems, this book develops a systematic approach to address security at early design stages together with all other design constraints. Cyber-attacks become more threatening as systems are becoming more connected with the surrounding environment, infrastructures, and other systems. Security mechanisms can be designed to protect against attacks and meet security requirements, but there are many challenges of applying security mechanisms to cyber-physical systems including open environments, limited resources, strict timing requirements, and large number of devices. Designed for researchers and professionals, this book is valuable for individuals working in network systems, security mechanisms, and system design. It is also suitable for advanced-level students of computer science.
