The con hasn't gone off without a hitch, but neither Theo nor I have managed to lose our scholarships - yet. That's not to say that this hare-brained scheme has gone over well or that we can maintain the charade for much longer. I'm injured, his teammates are pissed, the trust that's left amongst them is razor-thin, and I have a brand new skating partner with the biggest competition of my life looming over my head. With my loyalty divided between the rink I love and the rink I've promised to cover, the stakes have never been higher - especially when the truth of how much time Mac and I have been spending together and the feelings that have bloomed come to light. It's Theo's worst nightmare, but it's about to get worse. Secrets are everywhere and I'm not sure how many more I can keep before I burst at the seams. Everything is on the line and I'm torn in so many directions that I don't know if I can skate on ice this thin without falling through. Part two of a high-stakes college sports romance full of witty banter, second chances, and twists you'll never see coming. There's rules for a reason and breaking them always comes with consequences.

Each of our lives is a stained glass window in the making. The most satisfying experience I have is seeing people embrace GodÕs plan for them, to begin to see something beautiful emerge from all the disjointed bits and pieces of their often severely troubled lives. IÕve collected a number of my own bits and pieces here, often broken fragments becoming part of the window of my life. Some dark. Some brilliant. Some warm. Some cold. I trust all will become something beautiful in the end.

DESCRIPTION This unique volume contains twenty-eight fascinating life stories of people -- many of whom went on to become famous -- who grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The coming-of-age stories in Thin Ice relate a range of experiences both good and bad, including happy memories and heartwarming recollections but also personal traumas, intergenerational and racial conflicts, the strictures of religious belief and practice, the joys and sorrows of young romance, and more. Above and beyond the stories of the more notable personalities -- Jim Harrison, Roger Wilkins, John Hockenberry, President Gerald Ford, Betty Ford, Al Green, Paul Schrader, William Brashler -- the book as a whole is chock-full of crisp, humorous, irreverent, and moving writing. Reinder Van Til and Gordon Olson have excerpted half of the pieces from previous publications, while they directly solicited the other half from active writers specifically for this book. The earliest stories go back to the 1830s and 1850s, and the most recent are a cluster of contemporary pieces that describe coming of age in the Grand Rapids of the 1960s through the 1980s. Together they paint a multifaceted, impressionistic portrait of a century and a half in the fair city of Grand Rapids, Michigan. All in all, Thin Ice is a nostalgic treasure for any Grand Rapidian and literary treasure for e v e r y one. Contributors Albert Baxter Charles E. Belknap A. J. Over the past decades, the memory of the Holocaust has not only become a common cultural consciousness but also a cultural property shared by people all over the world. This collection brings together academics, critics and creative practitioners from the fields of Holocaust Studies, Literature, History, Media Studies, Creative Writing and German Studies to discuss contemporary trends in Holocaust commemoration and representation in literature, film, TV, the entertainment industry and social media. The essays in this trans-disciplinary collection debate how contemporary culture engages with the legacy of the Holocaust now that, 75 years on from the end of the Second World War, the number of actual survivors is dwindling. It engages with ongoing cultural debates in Holocaust Studies that have seen a development from, largely, testimonial presentations of the Holocaust to more fictional narratives both in literature and film. In addition to a number of chapters focusing in particular on literary trends in Holocaust representation, the collection also assesses other forms of cultural production surrounding the Holocaust, ranging from recent official memorialisation in Germany to Holocaust presentation in film, computer games and social media. The collection also highlights the contributions by creative practitioners such as writers and performers who use drama and the traditional art of storytelling in order to keep memories alive and pass them on to new generations. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of Holocaust Studies: A Journal of Culture and History.
